Abstract
Cerium doped TiO2 has been synthesized in the field of ultrasound (20 kHz, 250 W) and its catalytic effect for the degradation of potassium iodide, (KI), has been examined in comparison to the fluorescent and diffused light in combination with ultrasound. The degradation of KI has been found to be maximum in the presence of diffused light, TiO2 and ultrasound and minimum in diffused light without ultrasound and the photocatalyst. The role of ultrasound in the degradation of KI has been explained in terms of the cavitation phenomenon and the formation of hot spots, resulting in the formation of free radicals.
