Abstract

Density and ultrasonic velocity of binary liquid mixture of two nuclear extractants:di-(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acids (D2EHPA) and methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) have been experimentally measured over entire range of composition at 2 MHz and temperature 303.15K. The experimental results are employed to compute acoustic parameters viz. acoustic impedance, isentropic compressibility, intermolecular free length and relaxation strength in the entire range of D2EHPA molefraction. The non-linear increase of ultrasonic velocity, density, acoustic impedance and decrease of isentropic compressibility, intermolecular free length, relaxation strength with mole fraction of D2EHPA indicates the presence of strong interaction between the components of liquids. The theoretical values of ultrasonic velocity have been calculated using various empirical relations and models, viz. Impedance dependence relation, Nomoto's relation, Rao's specific sound velocity relation, Danusso model, Junjie's relation,Van Dael-Vangeel's ideal mixing relation, Schaaff's collision factor theory and are compared with the corresponding experimental data by applying ischolar_main mean square deviation relative (RMSD_r). A comparison of theoretical values of ultrasonic velocity with those obtained experimentally reveals that Nomoto's relation predicts the data reasonably well.
