Abstract

The study of intermolecular interaction plays an important role in development of molecular sciences. The molecular interactions in liquids provide valuable information about the behavior of liquids and solutions. The thermodynamic and acoustical studies elucidate the nature of interaction between molecules in liquids and solutions. The study of propagation of ultrasonic waves in liquid systems is established as significant tool in determining the nature of interactions between molecules in liquids and solutions. The ultrasonic parameters are directly related to a number of thermodynamic parameters. The ultrasonic velocity, density and viscosity have been measured for aqueous solution of antibiotic ceftriaxone sodium at three different temperatures 303.15 K, 308.15 K and 313.15 K and frequency 2 MHz. The measured data have been used to compute the acoustical properties namely adiabatic compressibility, intermolecular free length, specific acoustic impedance, relative association, relaxation time, Rao’s constant and Wada’s constant. These thermodynamic, acoustical parameters are used to discuss the molecular interactions in aqueous solution of antibiotic ceftriaxone sodium.
