Substance Abuse Prevention among Adolescent:What Works and what Does Not

Adolescent's substance abuse has become a major area of concern to health professionals, researchers, educationists, policy makers etc. With the rate of substance abuse soaring high across continents, many governmental bodies and other organisations began its effort to prevent substance abuse. In its effort of prevention, numerous strategies and approach were adopted and implemented. In their field application, it is found that some programmes were successful whereas others not successful. Thus, this study aims at synthesizing those interventions targeting at the prevention among adolescents and brings out a complete picture of what intervention works and what doesn't. Upon critically reviewing such programme, it would help those organisations and individuals better understand the existing and recent findings and recommendations. Sharing their educational effort and the preventive activities enable professionals to adopt and replicate similar curriculum to areas and communities where such programmes are needed. The analyses of those training programme indicate that intervention which provides a comprehensive self building and empowerment model were found more successful and effective than those providing merely knowledge based and scare campaign.
