Study of Dimensional Difference of Temperament in Adolescents of Single and Dual-Parent Family

In order to evaluate the hypothesis that there is no difference between the temperament of adolescents from single parent and dual parent family, the investigator conducted a comparative study to study the dimensions of temperament on 60 adolescents; 30 from single parent family and 30 from dual parent family. Dimensions of temperament i.e. sociability, ascendance, secretiveness, reflectiveness, impulsivity, placidness, acceptance, responsibility, vigorousness, cooperativeness, persistence, warmth, aggressiveness, tolerance and tough mindedness were measured using the Dimensions of Temperament Scale developed by Chadha and Chandana. The result shows that the adolescent from single parent families were high on ascendance, secretiveness & acceptance whereas those from dual parent families scored high on sociability. Girls from single parent families particularly were high on ascendance, acceptance, responsibility and aggressiveness where as boys from such families were high on aggressiveness. On the other hand boys from dual parent family scored high on warmth.
