A Study of Self-Efficacy in Terms of Gender Differences among School Students

The aim of the study was to observe the Self-Efficacy in terms of gender differences among school students studying in public and private schools of selected cities of Punjab namely Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar, and Patiala. The sample consisted of 400 students with equal no. of males and females. General Self-Efficacy scale by Schwarzer and Jerusalam (1995) along with Self-Efficacy Questionnaire for Children by Peter Muris (2001) was administered. Results were calculated using standardized scoring keys, also t-test was computed to find out gender differences. Results indicate that there exists statistically significant differences among male and female students on dimensions of General Self- Efficacy and academic Self-Efficacy, but statistically there exists no significant differences among males and female students on dimensions of social Self-Efficacy, emotional Self-Efficacy and children's total Self-Efficacy.
