Psychological Well-being of the Senior Citizens in Relation to their Socio-economic Status

Psychological well-being is one of the most cherished goals of humanity. It defines the idea of "good life". The present study is an attempt to examine the psychological well-being among senior citizens and their socio-economic variables. A sample of 60 elderly people of above 60 years from the Hisar city of Haryana, were taken as respondents from families and old age homes. Their psychological well-being was measured by using the PGC Morale Scale and for socioeconomic variables self-prepared interview scheduled was used as a tool. The statistical results of the study stated that factors, age, residence place, spouse partner, health status and income source were significantly associated with the psychological state of the elderly people whereas sex was not significantly associated. Therefore, they need special attention from family, policy makers, and those who work with elderly people.
