Abstract

Jaffe in 1953 differentiated Central Giant Cell Granuloma (CGCG) from Giant Cell Tumor of bone. This intra-osseous lesion has been described by various authors’ as a reactive lesion or as a developmental anomaly or as a non neo-plastic lesion. Though inflammation, haemorrhage, local trauma has been suggested as some of the aetiological factors but actual aetiology is still unclear. Genetic aetiology has also been hypothesized. Mandible is the common site of occurrence, frequently crossing the midline. Incidences in females are more and less than 30 is the age of occurrence. The clinical behaviour of CGCG ranges from a slowgrowing asymptomatic swelling to an aggressive lesion with pain, local osteolysis, ischolar_main resorption and tooth displacement. Most widely accepted treatment is surgery. Nonsurgical treatments with alpha-interferon, calcitonin and corticosteroids have been described and their benefits may be worthy of consideration. Contrary to the age, gender and site here we present a case of CGCG in a 52-year-old male patient presenting with a swelling in the right anterior maxilla.

Abstract

Focal cemento-osseous dysplasia (FCOD) is a fibro-osseous lesion that is a nonneoplastic reactive lesion. Fibro-osseous lesions are disturbances in bone metabolism in which normal bone is replaced by a connective tissue matrix that then gradually develops into cemento-osseous tissue. Typically, the lesion is asymptomatic and is detected on routine radiographic examination. Radiologically, this lesion has three stages of maturation: pure radiolucent, radiopaque/mixed radiolucent, and radiopaque appearance. During these stages the lesion can be misdiagnosed. In this case report a 57-year- old patient complaint of painless swelling of the right mandibular front tooth region which is presented along with a review of the differential diagnosis considered in order to reach a final diagnosis of focal cemento-osseous dysplasia.

Abstract

Dentigerous cyst is the most commonly occurring developmental odontogenic cyst. Because of the typical clinical and radiologic attributes, the present case was clinically misdiagnosed as Dentigerous cyst which was later confirmed histopathologically as Lateral periodontal cyst. Lateral periodontal Cyst is defined as non-keratinized developmental cyst located lateral to the ischolar_main of a vital tooth. This case report presents a unique case of lateral periodontal cyst present in 58-year-old female patient. Atypical presentation of lateral periodontal cyst as is presented in this case report should be considered by the histopathologist while interpreting microscopic preparations of odontogenic cysts.
