Mindfulness facilitates "wise mind" states, in which the individual is able to find a synthesis between emotional experience and logical thought (Feigenbaum, 2006). It primarily aims to teach people to approach the stressful situations "mindfully" so that they may respond to the situation wisely instead of reacting to it automatically. It is a core psychological process that can alter how we respond to the unavoidable difficulties in the life not only to everyday existential challenges , but also to severe psychological problems such as suicidal ideation (Linehan 1993a), chronic depression (Segal, Williams,&Teasdale, 2002) and psychotic delusions (Bach&Hayes, 2002). As a focused psychological strategy or skill, Mindfulness is gaining clinical credence for many psychological disorders (Baer, 2003). Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction has demonstrated positive effects for a number of physical and mental health problems including cancer, chronic pain, fibromyalgia, depression, anxiety and disordered eating (Baer, 2003; Grossman et al., 2004). The present paper provides an understanding of the concept as well as throws light on the research into the neurological and behavioral benefits of mindfulness skill training.Keywords

Distress either can be physical like a broken leg or it can be emotional like sadness, depression or anger. At some phase or point of life we all have to face, tolerate and cope with the distress in our lives. Distress tolerance primarily refers to individual's ability to withstand and experience negative psychological states (Simons&Gaher, 2005). The interpersonal relationships and effectiveness between adolescents, their family and friends are considered to be a crucial factor that influences their well-being. Dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) focuses on learning to cope and change the distressing events and circumstances. The distress tolerance training enhances the individuals capacity to deal with distress and on the other hand the intepersonal effectivensss skills taught in the dialectical behaviour therapy make the individual to deal with the relationships effectively. The primary objective of the present research study was to observe the effect of adapted form of dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) in enhancing the abilities of distress tolerance and interpersonal effectiveness. In the present study authors kept 20 participants on therapeutic intervention for the period of one year. The participants recorded to have poor levels of distress tolerance and interpersonal effectiveness on on the measures of Distress Tolerance Scale (DTS) and Interpersonal Needs Questionnaire (INQ) respectively. Participants were trained exclusively on the skills training modules of DBT in individual as well as group settings and their post intervention assessment of the levels of distress tolerance and interpersonal effectiveness were recorded with the respective tools after every four months (baseline, four, eight and twelve months) respectively. Descriptive statistical analysis (mean and standard deviation) and paired t-test was used to test the significance of mean.Keywords

The competitive pace of modern life places many demands on attention. This hectic life may cause stress and unhappiness. The present investigation was designed to study the relationship and gender differences between hope, mindfulness and happiness. Sample comprises of 180 students (100 males and 80 females) with age range of 18-24 years. For data collection purpose The Trait Hope Scale by Snyder et al. (1991) Mindfulness Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS) by Brown and Ryan (2003) and The Oxford Happiness Questionnaire by Argyle and Hills (2002) are used. Results revealed a positive relationship between hope, mindfulness and happiness.Keywords

Nadi shodhan Pranayama is a technique of alternate nostril breathing for successive respiratory cycle. Practice of pranakarshan pranayama (derived by Shriram Sharma Acharya) is to control the mind through conserving pranic energy from macrocosm. The current study is to explore the effect of Nadi Shodhan and pranakarshan pranayama on α-EEG using α-EEG Bio feedback apparatus among college going students. A pre-post experimental control group design was set up to testify the impact of independent variable having quota sampling technique to address the sample size of 40, equally distributed among two groups; aged between 19-24 years. The experimental group underwent Nadi shodhan and pranakarshan pranayama for 40 minutes daily except Sundays for 24 days. There was no intervention given in the control group. The paired t-test applied for the statistical analysis. The result showed a substantial increase in α-EEG after 24 days of regular practice of Nadi Shodhan and pranakarshan pranayama with p<0.01 level of significance. It can be concluded that Nadi Shodhan and pranakarshan pranayama can be used as an effective method for stress management and any undermined fluctuations of mind.Keywords

Satisfaction in life is the ultimate goal of life. Satisfaction with life relates to positive outcomes of different domains of life like family, health, and job (Brief et al., 1993). In other words, how much the person likes his/her life which he/she is living is life satisfaction (Veenhoven, 1996). The present study explored the effect of mindfulness-based self-management therapy on life satisfaction among teachers. For the purpose of the study, thirty participants were selected on the basis of their low scores on the life satisfaction scale. Then nine weeks intervention was given to participants. The intervention programme of the MBSMT consists of four modules. In the first step awareness and acceptance skills were taught, the second step was about belief management, the third aspect of the intervention was related to the assessment of strengths and the last step was inculcating positive emotions. After the completion of the intervention the score on the life satisfaction variable was noted down. And analysis was made for the pre and post- assessment with the help of paired t-test, it has been observed that there is a significant difference in the mean score on the variable of life satisfaction among the participants. Further findings highlight the significant effect of mindfulness-based self-management therapy on the life satisfaction of teachers.

Occupation is critical for fulfillment in life of human beings. Our work life gives purpose and meaning to our lives. Nowadays changes in the economic model are affecting the way industries operate. This is affecting how employees perceive occupational stress and work-life balance. We have examined the relationship between work-life balance and mindfulness with the occupational stress of employees in banking sector of the India since it is coming under tremendous changes due to amalgamation and privatization. A sample of Indian banking employees (N=300), i.e., 150 from public sector banks and 150 from private sector banks took part in this study. They responded to Occupational Stress Index, Work-Life Balance and Mindfulness Attention Awareness Scale. Analysis was done using descriptive statistics t-test and inter-correlation matrix between public and private sector bank employees in terms of their perception of work-life balance, occupational stress and mindfulness. Results indicate that mindfulness and occupational stress have a significant negative correlation. The findings have implications for possible program and policy developments seeking to enhance mindfulness at work and reduce occupational stress at workplace.Keywords
