In Mysore city there are more than 30 academic and research libraries. The investigators have taken only 23 libraries for the study. Out of 23 libraries 17 libraries have computers. In these 17 libraries only 14 libraries have automated their library operations. In this study the investigators have touched various aspects related to library automation. The libraries that have not automated have given reasons for the delay to start automation work. Many libraries have network connections for sharing the information. The libraries operate with MYLIBNET, DELNET and INFLIBNET networking programmes. In many libraries the professional and semi professional staff are involved in data entry work. Keywords

Present study reports empirical findings on the user adequacy and services of library collections among research scholars of university of Mysore. A total of 68 research scholars pursuing their Ph.D degree in various social and biological sciences were randomly selected of which 57 were male research scholars and 11 were female research scholars. A pre determined structured questionnaire on user adequacy and services of library collection was administered to the selected respondents. The data analysis was done using chi-square. Results revealed that in the case of library collections majority opined that only news papers and magazines are adequate. Reference books, text books, journals, thesis and dissertations were found to be moderately adequate as perceived by research scholars. Maps, atlases and charts, and electronic resources were found to be inadequate by the research scholars. In the case of library services, reference services, referral services, newspaper clippings, reprographic services and internet services were found to be good. Selective dissemination of information, current awareness service, indexing and abstracting services were found to be poor. Keywords

Information systems are changing the society. The ultimate scenario of the virtual society where all communication is electronic, and process such as tele-working, tele-learning and tele-conferencing or even video conference substitute the actual person to person contact, in which human beings satisfy their need for interaction with one another.
One of the clean realities is that online learning is an important and valuable new player in the educational world of todays.
Virtual references have strong base and they have the power to change the traditional library system. The virtual library, however, implies no physical location, whether for the end-user or the source. The men can access the information from anywhere and the information can be held anywhere.
One of the disadvantages of the virtual learning environment is the lack of face-to-face personal interaction which traditional educational contact promote, the virtual environment may not entirely replace traditional classrooms and teacher pupil contact.
