Abstract

Low power consumption and small area are some of the most important criteria for design of any high performance systems. So in this paper the best solution to the problem is determined by designing a high speed multiplier chiefly booth multiplier which reduces the number of flip flops and memory size in the design circuitry as compared to conventional serial multiplier. Then implementation of a calculator using booth multiplier and several other operational modules is done using codes written in VHDL language using ISE XILINX 6.1 and simulated in MODEL SIM 5.4a.

Abstract

The severe health implications associated with the exposure of organophosphate pesticides are highly pronounced owing to their indiscriminate use. Monocrotophos, a predominantly used organophosphate pesticide, is a hazardous chemical that predisposes the exposed population towards multiple health disorders. We investigated the toxic effects of MCP on human mesenchymal stem cells to ascertain its overall detrimental effects on the normal physiology. There was a remarkable reduction in the cell viability accompanied with increased oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunctions with the increasing exposure concentrations. The decreased cell viability is probably an outcome of monocrotophos induced apoptotic cell death indicated by elevated expression of Bax and caspase-3 and reduced BCl₂ expression and as such calls for a stringent abatement in its haphazard use to prevent the incidence of many life threatening ailments.

Abstract

During a disease outbreak, it is well known that marginalized groups, such as women, are affected the most. This is no different for the COVID-19 pandemic. In India especially, women engage more in household and childcare responsibilities than men and working women are currently experiencing a greater burden as they are required to work from home and manage these different roles at once, leading to multiple role conflict (MRC). The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the experience of multiple role conflicts among women working from home in joint and nuclear families during the COVID-19 pandemic in urban India. Semi-structured interviews were conducted on six women working from home in joint families and four from nuclear families. Thematic analysis was used and the themes were compared between both family structures. Participants from both family structures were found to share similar psychological consequences as a result of the role conflict. But, women from nuclear families reported a lack of moral support contrary to joint families. This study sheds light on the need for the provision of education, facilities and supports particularly by family development planners, therapists and organizations to aid women working from home in the pandemic.
