We are passing through the stage of tremendous change which focuses on rapid development. Consequently, the available natural resources are depleting. Water is one such natural resource. The issue of soaring food prices and the rapid depletion of the world's energy resources, it has been observed that a catastrophic water shortage could prove the biggest threat to mankind in coming years. The 20th century has seen the world's population triple. Utilization of renewable water recourses has increased by six times in the same period. India's demand for water is growing even as it stretches its supplies. Water infrastructure is crumbling, preventing the government from being able to supply drinking water to its citizens. India needs to make water supply a national priority the way it has made food security and economic growth priorities in the past. India's need for a comprehensive management program is so severe because of its rapidly depleting water supply, environmental problems, and growing population. The stress on water sources poses a major challenge to social scientists. The stress on water resources results from an imbalance between the consumption of water and the available water resources. The need of the hour is to change our thinking on water. Unless radical transformation is brought in the mindsets of the common people, the issue of water scarcity and crisis will further deepen.- Impact of Globalization and Trends of Mobility Among Industrial Workers

This paper focuses its attention on factors which facilitate mobility among the respondents for developing a new class order. It assumes that blurring of class divisions is taking place in the Indian industrial work organization because of the unequal opportunities construed as the aspect of life-chances (Merton:1968). Consequently, new class configuration is emerging which is prompting a situation of class-structuration. Emerging trends of mobility linked with external support facilitators like market-situation, class situation and work situation in organizational context is discussed. We also propose to examine the differential achievement orientation found among the respondents working at two different types of organization i.e. 'mechanistic' type and the 'organic' type of organization. The paper is divided into two sub sections. First section deals with the achievement orientation of the respondents, while the second section focuses its attention on the respondents' aspiration.- Terrorism: A Sociological Analysis

India as a nation state must have a clear perspective and unambiguous attitude towards terrorism for tackling the menace and containing it. Internal security constitutes inner strength and health potential of the country. In the recent past attack on police and paramilitary forces indicate the increasing outreach of Naxalism in India, thus threatening National Security. National Security can be defined as a Nation's capability in the preservence of integrity and strengthening values and objectives. Gopal Chowdhary in his editorial remarks said "Counter terror policy world over has come a long way since its being bracketed with "us" v/s "them" syndrome immediately after 9/11 attacks". (K.N. Chowdhary, 2011).Terrorism implies use of violence and threat of violence for political purposes. It is a term used to describe the "methodology used by an organized group to achieve its avowed aims, chiefly through the systematic use of violence" (Hardman, 2006).The first part of the paper deals with the overview of terrorism, the second part deals with the types of terrorism and the last part deals with the future trend of terrorism.- Environment Vis a Vis Development:Where will it End

In twenty first century, economic growth and modernization have been pursued aggressively by nation states. Improved quality of life, increased health care, education, urbanization etc. have made demands on the environment by using finite natural resources generating wastes or near depletion of natural resources. Land and water are the two resources whose scarcity has nearly jeopardized growth for future generations. Demographic pressure, moral density and over population are attributing factors. This paper attempts to identify these interlink ages vis a vis sustainable development from a sociological perspective. Decisions taken at every level throughout society should have due regard to their possible environmental consequence. Only then the philosophy of sustainable development can be attained keeping the environment intact for the future generations.- Analyzing Inequality among Industrial Workers

The study of inequality is an important aspect of modern social science. Issues concerning the distribution of life chances, incomes, mobility and opportunity, poverty, and social exclusion have had a prominent place in the social sciences since their inception. In all likelihood, these issues will remain on the social scientific agenda indefinitely. The study of inequality fuses normative, descriptive, and explanatory aspects to explore how much inequality there is in quantitative terms: who gets what compared to others? The explanatory analysis focuses on why some get more than others. The normative analysis of inequality is philosophical in nature and asks whether the current state of inequality can be regarded as just: by what standards is the distribution of various goods and burdens to be considered fair or unfair, and to whom? The amount of inequality is dependent on these parameters. This paper aims to analyze life chances, social mobility, and the use of indicators such as achievement orientation among the industrial workers. Factors facilitating mobility are intrinsically instrumental in developing a new class order. It assumes that blurring of class divisions is taking place in the Indian industrial work organization because of the unequal opportunities construed as the aspect of life-chances (Merton:1968). Consequently, new class configuration is emerging which is prompting a situation of class-structuration. The differential achievement orientation found among the respondents working at two different types of organization i.e. 'mechanistic' type and the 'organic' type of organization.- Gendered Identity and Social Inequality in India in the 21st Century

Gender can be construed as a cultural frame for co-ordinating behavior and organizing social relations. As sociologists most of us are structuralists who perceive gender as inequality ischolar_mained in broad organizational and institutional structures with strong material bases. It is a multilevel structure of institutions of social practices involving reinforcing processes at the structural level, institutional level and individual level.- Discrimination in Silence
