Abstract

Business analytics has proven itself as a high business performance tool that can be applied to multiple divisions of an enterprise and creates a fact based culture across the organisation. The use of Quantitative analysis, predictive models and statistical tools helps the business managers in gaining a different view of the data, and deriving maximum value out of it, which in turn contributes towards improved decision making and problem solving in an organisation. However, it has been observed that despite the several benefits that are anticipated with Business Analytics adoption, very few have achieved proficiency in its implementations and organizations are facing adoption barriers, most of them being management and culture related rather than being data and technology related. The present study was undertaken to bridge this gap between the highly proclaimed business benefits of Analytics and the problems faced by organizations in successfully implementing this tool. It presents a detailed analysis of success stories of 7 companies from different sectors viz. FMCG, banking, healthcare, transportation and online selling, who have capitalized on this tool. Case studies were developed and critically analysed on the basis of their objectives of implementing Analytics, tools that were adopted, results achieved and success factors leading to their enhanced performance. The results lead to identification of factors that contribute towards successful implementation of Business Analytics for enhancing the performance of companies from various industries and also companies with varied capital structures. This research also helps in critically analysing various factors that are pulling a company away from implementing the analytical models. Considering the various dimensions of successfully implementing analytics in organizations, as identified through the study, we also propose a roadmap for successful implementation of business analytics. The findings from the study will help organizations in proactively finding a solution to counter adoption barriers that are generally faced during use of analytics and learning from the best practices of the industry.

Abstract

Internet shopping behavior has remained an area of interest for researchers and has been studied under different contexts. The research in this area covers diverse dimensions of Internet shopping and its adoption. It has also been emphasized repeatedly by researchers that there is a lack of consistent framework for Internet shopping behavior. In order to fill this research gap and to put together the vast literature on Internet shopping, this study was undertaken with an objective to organize the researches conducted in this field with respect to the underlying objectives of the particular study. It was found that most of the research in the field of Internet shopping is aimed at (1) Applying constructs from Technology Acceptance Model(TAM) to Internet shopping behavior, (2) Defining Online consumer behavior and its determinants, (3) Studying overall web experience and its role in shaping Internet buying behavior, (4) Understanding the role of Trust, (5) Brand, (6) Security and web assurance as a factor, (7) Understanding the shopping orientations for online buyers and (8) the role of Demographics. The findings of the study will be useful in identifying the most important factors that influence online shopping behavior as perceived by the researchers. The study also aims at identifying the future agenda for research based on the research gaps identified from the review of literature.

Abstract

The primary intention of this research is to design and develop an approach for integrating compression and encryption on textual data. This improved approach can provide the better security with the aid of encryption and also, can provide better compression with the help of encoding procedure. The advantage of combining the encoding procedure with the encryption technique is that the attacks relevant to storage can be easily avoided since the data is fully within encoded domain also; the storage space required will be less due to good compression ratio. With the advantages of this, we have planned to utilize the dictionary-based encoding procedure and proposed encryption method to comcryption protocol (Compression + encryption). For integrating the compression and encryption, dictionary-based compression and the encryption based on permutation, sorting and reordering will be used. Dictionary-based methods are capable of giving better compression rate as like huffman encoding also follows dictionary-based method. Also, permutation, sorting and reordering-based methods can provide better security if these operations are included in the encryption protocol.

Abstract

Hydraulic Energy dissipators are devices to protect downstream areas of basin from erosion by reducing the velocity of flow up to an acceptable limit. The stilling basins are transition structures fabricated to dissipate excess energy confined by flow with high velocity at the outlet of conduit or tunnel so that the flow beyond the basin does not threaten the firmness of bed and banks of downstream channel in structures like culvert spillways, canal, etc. from scouring. Henceforth proper attention needed by hydraulic engineers for the design of energy dissipators so as to obtain optimum energy dissipation at outlet. The type of stilling basin most suitable at a particular location mainly depends upon initial velocity of flow and initial Froude Number. This paper describe about the different type of energy dessipators with different appurtanances used in hydraulic structures for protection work.
