The major objective of the present study was to explore the nature of social identity and subjective well being among the members of Hindu and Muslim community. The sample composed of 40 Hindu and 40 Muslim participants. The 2x2x2 factorial design was used for the study. To know the effect of independent variables, a Univariate factorial ANOVA was performed. The finding suggests that Muslim community has scored high on social identity scale in comparison to Hindu community. Whereas, gender and age level has no significant effect on social identity. The community and gender has no significant difference on the level of subjective well being (SWB) but age level has significant effect on SWB. Young adults of both community and both gender have high scores on SWB. A significant positive correlation was found between social dentity and subjective well being.Keywords

Present study armed to investigate the group favoritism and perceived discrimination which plays a major role in inter group behavior. It was hypothesized that negatively valuated group or category feel more perceived discrimination and adopted out group favoritism. One hundred twenty students (40 Gen, 40 OBC, 40 SC/ST) of Gorakhpur university were administered two standardized questionnaire-Social stereotypes scale and Perceived discrimination questionnaire. Results reveal that student of general category adopted in group favoritism and less perceived discrimination. Students of SC/ST category manifested out-group favoritism and feel highest perceived discrimination. Findings were explained with the help of social identity and social justification theory.Keywords

The future cellular wireless network is expected to support a large variety of multimedia traffic in downlink. Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) technique using adaptive modulation and coding technique can increase the system capacity many fold. In this paper, the performance analysis of an OFDMA system utilizing an efficient resource allocation method, called Two Stage Rate Adaptive (TSRA) algorithm is studied. Considering wide variation in Signal to Interfering Noise Ratio (SINR) dynamically between 3 to 26 dB in Rayleigh channel, and randomly mixing of four categories of multimedia traffic, it is observed that the difference between analytical and simulated average capacity of the system gets smaller as number of user increases, and at one point the simulated average system capacity exceeds 6 b/s per Hz. Apart from spectral efficiency, Bit Error Rate (BER), and delay performance of the proposed system is evaluated here.Keywords

Earlier the PV system used to offer about 10 % efficiency only due to solar intermittency, generation losses etc. But with the increasing demand of enhancing the efficiency of a PV system, its power quality is also decreasing. For the purpose of better penetration and efficiency MPPT controllers, 6 pulse inverters etc. are being implemented which leads to the presence of harmonics at output. In this paper we have considered a grid connected PV system having MPPT controller, Inverter. Analysis is made to find the optimum maximized real and reactive power by varying no. of cells in series and parallel respectively.

Cloud Computing is a dominant way of sharing of computing resources that can be configured and provisioned easily. Task scheduling in Hybrid cloud is a challenge as it suffers from producing the best QoS (Quality of Service) when there is a high demand. In this paper a new resource allocation algorithm, to find the best External Cloud provider when the intermediate provider's resources aren't enough to satisfy the customer's demand is proposed. The proposed algorithm called Optimized Particle Swarm Optimization (OPSO) combines the two metaheuristic algorithms namely Particle Swarm Optimization and Ant Colony Optimization (ACO). These metaheuristic algorithms are used for the purpose of optimization in the search space of the required solution, to find the best resource from the pool of resources and to obtain maximum profit even when the number of tasks submitted for execution is very high. This optimization is performed to allocate job requests to internal and external cloud providers to obtain maximum profit. It helps to improve the system performance by improving the CPU utilization, and handle multiple requests at the same time. The simulation result shows that an OPSO yields 0.1% - 5% profit to the intermediate cloud provider compared with standard PSO and ACO algorithms and it also increases the CPU utilization by 0.1%.Keywords

Machine learning schemes can be employed in cognitive radio systems to intelligently locate the spectrum holes with some knowledge about the operating environment. In this paper, we formulate a variation of Actor Critic Learning algorithm known as Continuous Actor Critic Learning Automaton (CACLA) and compare this scheme with Actor Critic Learning scheme and existing Q-learning scheme. Simulation results show that our CACLA scheme has lesser execution time and achieves higher throughput compared to other two schemes.Keywords

Most common works for rendezvous in cognitive radio networks deal only with two user scenarios involving two secondary users and variable primary users and aim at reducing the time-to-rendezvous. A common control channel for the establishment of communication is not considered and hence the work comes under the category of 'Blind Rendezvous'. Our work deal with multi-user scenario and provides a methodology for the users to find each other in the very first time slot spent for rendezvous or otherwise called the firstattempt- rendezvous. The secondary users make use of the history of past communications to enable them to predict the frequency channel that the user expects the rendezvous user to be. Our approach prevents greedy decision making between the users involved by the use of a cut-off time period for attempting rendezvous. Simulation results show that the time-to-rendezvous (TTR) is greatly reduced upon comparison with other popular rendezvous algorithms.Keywords

An efficient moving object Segmentation is useful for real time content based video surveillance and Object Tracking. Commonly a foreground is extracted using a mixture of Gaussian followed by shadow and noise removal to initialise the Object Trackers. This technique uses a kernel mask to make the system more efficient by decreasing the search area and the number of iterations to converge in the new location of the object. In the background model, the post processing step is applied to the obtained object mask to remove noise region and to smoothen the object boundary which incurs additional delay. In this paper a Background Buffering algorithm (BBA) is proposed to construct a reliable background model based on a sequence of input frames. Except moving object data, the other data is used to build reliable background representation. The result shows significant decrease in run-time for the higher level processing steps of surveillance system.Keywords

River Gomti receives treated/untreated industrial as well as municipal wastes from various drains of Lucknow city, India. In order to study heavy metal pollution (Cd, As, Pb and Cu) in the river, water and sediment samples were collected from 10 sampling stations along a 9 km stretch in the city of Lucknow. Results revealed that the concentrations of heavy metals in water samples were in the range: As: 0.035-0.061, Cd: 0.016-0.068, Cu: 0.029-0.062 and Pb: 0.031-0.065 mg l-1 whereas in sediments metal concentrations were found to be As: 3.72-14.98, Cd: 1.91-8.39, Cu: 8.97-95.35 and 35.82-90.92 μg g-1. Bioaccumulation of these metals was assessed in four aquatic macrophytes, viz. Pistia stratiotes, Eichhornia crassipes, Polygonum coccineum and Marsilea quadrifolia. Pistia stratiotes and Polygonum coccineum accumulated maximum amount of Pb followed by Cu, Cd and As, whereas in the case of Eichhornia crassipes and Marsilea quadrifolia the relative metal accumulation pattern was found as Cu > Cd > Pb > As and Cu > Pb > Cd > As respectively. The present study suggests that though the concentrations of toxic metals were lower in water, chronic exposure could result in bioaccumulation to a degree many-fold higher than in growing medium. It was also concluded that the water and sediment of the river should be regularly monitored for heavy metal contamination and care should be taken while using river water in agriculture/ aquaculture.Keywords

Stereotype threat refers to being at risk of confirming, as a self-characteristic, a negative stereotype about one's social group (Steele & Aronson, 1995). It is a psychological phenomena that has negatively impact the performance of variety of groups (O' Brien & Crandall, 2003). Present study was aimed to investigate the stereotype threat and academic achievement in various social group students. Two measures, stereotype scale and educational achievements from High school to P.G. Entrance exam were applied on 300 students (100 from General, 100 OBC & 100 SC/ST) of various social groups. Results suggest that group membership of various social group affect the stereotype threat and academic achievements. Level of stereotype threat was found significant affect on academic achievement and also, it was found negative correlation between stereotype threat and academic achievements.Keywords

The migration of labourers from the northern States of India to the southern States has become prominent practice for more than a decade. Workers from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand are employed in manufacturing and construction sectors, rice, sugar and ginning mills, and dairy industry all over Telangana, markedly in the Hyderabad city. Most of these are the sweatshop workers, who live in subhuman conditions. The sudden announcement of COVID-19 lockdown in March 2020 had not only caught them by surprise but rendered them captive unemployed and fear-stricken at workplace. This created a panic reaction out of desperation to reach home once the lockdown was relaxed. The government was not in a position to provide migrant labourers protective social security due to sheer lack of data and mechanism to reach out to them. The lack of transport and curfew had brought them untold misery. It was the civil society that had undertaken the humanitarian task of making arrangements for their return journey. This paper seeks the first-hand information on the conditions of employment of migrant workers from Bihar and their return status after the declaration of lockdown.Keywords
