In this paper a model is proposed for effect of union leadership on union member attitude formation which in turn leads to union member participation. This effect is being explored in further detail through mediation of human drives. Two pathways for union participation are proposed such that transactional leadership forms the attitude towards union instrumentality through activation of ‘drive to acquire’ and ‘drive to defend’ and transformational leadership leads to the union commitment through activation of ‘drive to bond’ and ‘drive to comprehend’, and finally both leads to union participation. It is proposed that the effect of both leadership styles is moderated by favorable industrial relations climate.

This paper discusses the factors that led to the decline in unionization worldwide, based on a review of literature between the years 1995 and 2013. The paper first traces the factors that led to the decline based on geographies, followed by those that led to the decline of unionization in five countries namely United States of America, Britain, Germany, India and China. These countries have been chosen more as a convenience sampling rather than being representative of any economy or geography. The factors leading to union decline has been categorized into economic factors, socio-political factors, cyclical factors, structural factors and other factors. It needs to be mentioned that there are a lot of idiosyncrasies and there is no "iron law" of trade union decline.- Integrating Business-Society Dichotomy through Spiritual Lens

Responsibility of businesses towards society has been defined narrowly as ‘the business of business is business’ and in an all-inclusive way as ‘all stakeholders have equal claim on wealth created by businesses’. Who are the stakeholders for whom business is responsible and how are the externalities caused by the business operations compensated? The authors argue that there is a need to redefine these issues through the perspective of spirituality for addressing the dichotomy between the interest of business and the expectation of society. They propose that by applying the principles of connectedness and harmony in all business decisions, the existence of the firm could incrementally transcend towards better alignment and integration with the purpose of society.References
