Objectives: This study was conducted to determine effects of surgical operation videos on self-directed learning ability and develop self-learning of public health students. Methods/Statistical Analysis: This study was conducted using subjects who enrolled in a basic medicine course as sophomore students at G College from April to June, 2016. The research was designed to use nonequivalent control group in pre-and post-test. Criteria for data collection were self-directed learning ability, learning motivation, professional self-concept, and satisfactory level. Collected data was analyzed using SPSS Program 18.0. Statistical significance was evaluated with frequency, percentage, x2-test and t-test. Findings: The basic curriculum has been regarded so difficult to public health students that they just put them aside for memorization later. Self-directed learning was significantly higher in a test group than control group (t=5.174, p>.001). But professional selfconcept had no significant difference between two groups (t=-.603. p= .548). Learning motive had no significant difference between two groups (t=1.551. p=.125). Satisfaction level showed a higher average score of 4.41. In particular, for those prejudiced students against the basic curriculum, considered to be strict and difficult to follow, videos could help to draw attention and concentration on their class. Meanwhile, in our study, several approaches were attempted to encourage learners to develop self-learning with opening videos after face-to-face education but no significance was made. Because professional self-concept means realization of self-tasks as professionals, self-esteem would be higher when students are confident. Our study suggests that face-to-face class using videos improved self-directed learning and helped students to study their subjects. But disadvantages of our program were inaccuracy of study materials and not quite well fitted levels. Improvements/Applications: Clinical practice-related videos could intrigue students` interests and help studying basic major subjects, such as anatomy and physiology. But, knowledge and practical experiences in anatomy and pathology are required for students to be properly taught with video-assisted education. Keywords

Objectives: This study investigated effects of 2 weeks of overseas volunteering programs, taken by college students in public health on meaning of life, subjective happiness, and professional self-concept. Methods/Statistical Analysis: Subjects were those students who participated or did not participate in a college-administered 2 weeks of overseas volunteering program. A part of descriptive survey was used and values in repeats and variance analysis were measured to collect data. Values of professional images, meaning of life, subjective happiness were collected and verified according to each developer’s standards. Collected data was analyzed using SPSS Program 18.0. Descriptive statistics was applied for general characteristics of subjects, and variable changes between groups were analyzed with repetitive measurements and variance analysis. Findings: Our study was a descriptive survey showing changes in meaning of life, subjective happiness and professional self-concept after students in public heath took part in overseas volunteering programs. Such programs generated long-term effects of self-esteem as a global leader and citizen, mental happiness, inner calmness and subjective happiness onto participants. Those programs also brought positive changes in entire life of female students. With promotion of such programs students should be given opportunities to keep passion, confidence, and positive life attitude. Under the meaning of life entry, significant differences in population (F=1.507, p=>.001, η2=.223), survey period (F=31.94, p=>.001, η2=.441), and combined population and survey period (F=5.417, p=.006, η2=.118) were found. Under the subjective happiness entry, Significant differences in population (F=5.442, p=.022, η2=.062), survey period (F=98.21, p=>.001, η2=.708), and combined population and survey period (F=4.259, p=.017, η2=.095) were also found. These results, therefore, demonstrated that college students in public health gave positive assertions to meaning of life, their satisfaction level with their own life was higher in general, and their inner changes stayed longer. Improvements/Applications: Our results strongly indicated that, overseas volunteering programs gave participating students opportunities for changes of their own inner selves. Keywords

Background/Objectives: This study aimed to determine the effects of hypertension, dyslipidemia, myocardial infarction, and angina pectoris on stress by cardiovascular diseases.
Methods/Statistical Analysis: The raw data from the Korea Health Statistics 2017: Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) Ⅶ-2 were used. A total of 6,458 out of 8,127 respondents were included, with the exception of 1,669 aged <20 years. The analyses were carried out by using an SPSS Version 20.0 program.
Findings: The group diagnosed with hypertension was more strongly correlated with stress than the group not diagnosed with hypertension (approx. 3.6 times, p<.001). It has been confirmed that hypertension among cardiovascular diseases is correlated with psychological, mental health related to stress. No statistical significance was found for the other items.
Improvements/Applications: The results of this study have demonstrated that hypertension among cardiovascular diseases is correlated with stress. Cardiovascular diseases can affect mental health (stress, depressive disorder, etc.); therefore, it is necessary to reinforce regular exercise and psychological relief programs. This is expected to help determine the morbidity of cardiovascular diseases and promote mental health.

Background/Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the risk of the infection disasters by outbreak status of Group 1 to 4 legal infectious diseases in South Korea.
Methods/Statistical Analysis: The raw data regarding “legal infectious diseases under complete surveillance” disclosed by the Ministry of Health Welfare (MOHW) and the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) were used. The infectious diseases are divided into Group 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 infectious diseases, designated infectious diseases, infectious diseases supervised by the World Health Organization (WHO), bioterrorism-related infectious diseases, sex-mediated infectious diseases, zoonosis, and medicallyrelated infectious diseases. Of these, Group 1 to 4 legal infectious diseases found between 2014 and 2018 were included in this study. The analyses were carried out by using an SPSS Version 20.0 program.
Findings: Between 2014 and 2018, the number of Group 2 legal infectious diseases (562,830 cases) was greatest, followed by Group 3 (194,847), Group 1 (25,844), and Group 4 (3,183). Group 3 (625 cases) resulted in the greatest number of deaths, followed by Group 2 (275), Group 4 (214), and Group 1 (18). Of these, Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), Group 4 infectious disease, resulted in 38 cases of death in 2015. Such a high death toll was due to the poor awareness of the risk of MERS introduced from abroad and the absence of a good control and coping system. Since the MERS outbreak in 2015, the awareness of infection disasters has changed, resulting in the absence of death in 2016.
Improvements/Applications: It is unclear how to determine the intensity of infection for infectious diseases introduced from abroad. It is necessary to make efforts to improve precautions, reinforce coping against the spread, enhance capabilities through mock drill, improve the legal system, and increase infrastructures with the objective of building an efficient crisis control system against infectious diseases.
