The aimed this study was to evaluate available micronutrient (Fe, Cu, Mn and Zn) status and their relationship with the soil properties. Twenty four soil samples were collected from various locations of Koronivia, Fiji to determine properties of soil. The available micronutrient (DTPA extractable) viz., Fe, Mn, Cu and Zn were analyzed using atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The laboratory analyzed data revealed that soils of the study area are acidic in nature with low values of organic carbon and electrical conductivity. Available micronutrients analysis revealed that iron (Fe), manganese (Mn) and copper (Cu) were found to be sufficient in most of the soil samples, whereas, available zinc (Zn) was found to be deficient in most of the were analyzed samples. Further, pH showed a positive correlation with Cu and negative correlation with Mn. Organic carbon showed a positive correlation with Fe and Mn. CEC showed positive correlations with Fe, Mn and a negative correlation with Zn.Keywords

Quality of water has been a major concern due to ever increase in human development activities that over exploit and pollute the water resources. Water resources like rivers, lakes, canals etc. are generally used for agricultural production in most of the countries.The sustainable agricultural development depends on the efficient utilization of existing water resources; therefore, quality of irrigation water is an important criteria of consideration for sustainable agricultural production. Various scientific methods are generally used for determination of water quality. This paper is an attempt to analyze the water quality of river Navua in Fiji for irrigation purpose. Water samples for laboratory testing were collected from 6 different sampling sites. Water quality variables were measured and the samples were analyzed for pH, electrical conductivity (EC), total soluble salts (TSS), chloride content (CC), residual sodium carbonate (RSC) and sodium adsorption ratio (SAR). The evaluation of the irrigation water quality parameters as an indicator in the Navua River are summarized in this article.Keywords

Field trial was conducted during 2013 - 2014 to assess the effects of application of different types of livestock animals excreta and methods of their decomposition on tomato (Lycopersicum esculentum L.) crop growth parameters like plant height and number of compound leaves at 30 days after transplanting and at harvest stage; number of fruits per plant; fruits weight and volume were recorded. The results of this study showed that the plant height and number of compound leaves at 30 days after transplanting and at harvest stage and fruit weight and fruit volume were maximum in case of poultry followed by goat and minimum in case of duck excreta. Methods of decomposition also exhibited a significant difference in growth parameters of tomato. The highest growth and yield were recorded in T3 (Animal excreta+Crop residues+Earthworm) followed by T2 (Animal excreta+Earthworm) and least was obtained from T1 (Animal excreta).Keywords
