Naturally occurring entomopathogenic nematodes and their symbiotic bacteria are important biotic factor in suppression of insect pest populations in soil and cryptic habitats. The virulent species of these nematodes are commercially produced as biological control agents all over the world encompassing North America, Europe, Asia and Australia in glasshouse crops, orchards, ornamentals, turf, lawn, and forestry. India has a great potential to exploit these beneficial nematodes for the suppression of insect pests. Recent emphasis on mass production and formulation technologies of these nematodes in India stresses a need to implement safer and effective pest control methods. This article provides an overview of recent development on formulation and commercialization of entomopathogenic nematodes, and evaluates their potential exploitation in India.Keywords

Sorghum stem borer, Chilo partellus Swinhoe is one of the serious pests of sorghum and maize crops in Asia and throughout East and South Africa. In India, it is becoming as the most damaging insect pest particularly in Dharwad region of north Karnataka by causing economic losses during kharif and rabi seasons. The observations on population dynamics of egg masses, larvae, pupae, number of plant damaged and parasitic interactions of natural enemies with larvae and pupae of C. partellus were recorded at weekly interval at Dharwad (Karnataka). The stem borer population was significantly higher in kharif than in rabi-summer crop. The larval parasitoid, Cotesia flavipes was found to be very active in kharif season and maximum parasitization of 29% was recorded in November whereas Sturmiopsis inferens was prevalent during rabi-summer crop and maximum parasitization of 28% was recorded during February. A population of 2% pupal parasitoid, Tetrastichus sp., was also recorded during kharif season.Keywords

Proximate analysis of a food sample determines the total protein, fat, carbohydrate, ash and moisture reported as the percentage composition of the product. The quality of the assays and the definition of the composition (i.e. which components are included in the measurement) vary. The samples analyzed were jowar, maize, blackgram and bengalgram. The processing techniques adapted were dehulling for jowar, blackgram and bengalgram and flour making for maize. Hence, the present investigation was taken up with the objective of determining the proximate content in the selected whole and processed food grains at Central Telangana Zone of A.P. The proximates moisture, protein, fat, ash, fibre and carbohydrate were analyzed in the samples by using standard AOAC methods. The results revealed that statistically significant difference at 5 per cent level was observed with regard to all the nutrients analyzed between the whole and the processed samples, except protein in jowar and maize, fat and ash in jowar and carbohydrate in jowar, maize and blackgram, which were statistically not significant. The whole grain samples contained lower content of moisture, protein, fat, ash and carbohydrate than processed grains. Except fibre whole grains contained greater fibre content than processed grain.Keywords

Agriculture Update, Vol 9, No 2 (2014), Pagination: 178-180Abstract
A study was conducted on adoption of good agricultural practices (GAP) among chillies farmers in three districts of southern Tamil Nadu. By following simple random sampling, a sample size of 160 respondents was selected from eight villages. The findings revealed that 43.75 per cent of the contract farmers had high level of adoption followed by medium adoption level (38.75 %). In the case of non-contract farmer 37.50 per cent had high adoption while 30.00 per cent had medium adoption level.Keywords

Wireless sensor network plays major role in military surveillance, nuclear power plants, and forest fire detection. Many routing techniques and cryptographic methods were applied to secure the network, which proved inefficient in practice. Data is transmitted from source to destination either by single hop or multihop routing. In this paper the threats that are encountered while using multi hop routing in WSN is discussed. The attacks were mainly due to the identity of nodes a this paper deals majorly with sink hole attack, wormhole and Sybil attacks. To overcome these attacks due to deception, a protocol named TARF, trust aware routing protocol framework is implemented. It is considered to be an energy efficient and trust worthy protocol. The resilience of this protocol is evaluated through empirical experiments and simulations on large WSN under various network conditions. TARF produces less overhead in the network.TARF proves to be more effective in securing network by identifying the malicious nodes and by preventing it to be used while transmission of data.

This Optimization technique for designing a configurable VLSI architecture of an interpolation filter for multi-standard digital up converter .RRC filter is used to reduce the area, delay and power consumption. The low current range and architecture of the pulse-shaping FIR filter for digital up converter was developed. In the existing system, the 3bit binary common subexpression(BCS) based (BCSE) elimination algorithm. In this paper carry adder is used instead of the shift and add method and the simple arithmetic adder multiplexer unit is replaced by the carry-save adder. The number of additions and multiplications can be reduced using this technique. This technique has been in reducing the area and power consumption by 25% and 10%, respectively, reported with 68% improvement in operating frequency over a 2-bit BCSE-based technology, and can be considered adequate for designing more the multi-standard DUC. The designed pulse shaping FIR filter synthesized and simulated using Xilinx ISE 6.9.

The use of the multi-interfaced devices has been increasing due to multi-homed streaming services. Running multiple interfaces simultaneously in a mobile interface may cause battery drain even in sleep modes and it can cause degradation of QOS. The abstract of our project is to provide dynamic load distribution which includes a multi-interfaced device with multi homing capability thereby preventing the mobile terminals going to sleep mode. The PELD (power efficiency load distribution) algorithm is used which can be easily adopted and deployed to find a optimal point with low complexity and convergence time. The tool used here is network simulator2 tool where the implementation is done and the coding is written in tcl.

Privacy preserving data mining has become increasingly popular because it allows sharing of privacy sensitive data for analysis purposes. So people have become increasingly unwilling to share their data, frequently resulting in individuals either refusing to share their data or providing incorrect data.The difficulty in privacy-sensitive domain is solved by the development of the Multi-Level Trust Privacy Preserving Data Mining (MLT-PPDM) where multiple differently perturbed copies of the same data are available to data miners at different trusted levels. In MLT-PPDM data owners generate perturbed data by various techniques like Batch generation and On-demand generation. MLT-PPDM can overcome the diversity attacks. Partial information hiding methodologies like random perturbation, random rotation perturbation are incorporated with MLT-PPDM to enhance data security and to prevent leakage of the sensitive data. The solution allows a data owner to generate perturbed copies of its data for arbitrary trust levels on demand. Finally MLT-PPDM approach is improved to tackle against the non-linear attacks. The time and space complexities are calculated for both techniques and the results show that on-demand algorithm is best among them.Keywords

Two different cases of conflicts over natural resources from the Indian state Kerala such is analyzed in this paper- Kadar Adivasis and Wayanad. Reasons, causes of migration and changed gender relations due to development and policy interventions are the focus of the first case, the second case is policies in conflict with rights to resource access. Both these cases tell us some insightful stories about the Adivasi experience with the idea of development. This paper largely argues for inclusivity in terms of the cultural heterogeneity of the Adivasi communities in the whole development scenario. And also, the sustainability of the communities would only be sustainable by giving rights on the resources they possess.Keywords

Jatropha curcas Linn., a Bio-diesel plant known for various medicinal uses in folklore has been evaluated for few pharmacological aspects. The plant is being collected, dried and extracted by maceration method with ethanol and water. They were concentrated using vacuum distillation and the extracts were used for the evaluation of anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antibacterial activity using Formalin induced paw edema method, eddy's hot plate method and disc diffusion method respectively. The analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity of bark water extract and leaf water extract was found significant at P<0.05 and P<0.001 respectively. The maximum analgesic effect was observed at 60min at 300mg/kg (i.p) and was similar to that of standard aspirin (50mg/kg). The edema inhibition effect was 100% for leaf water extract (300mg/kg) after 24hrs and was found effective when compared with standard Ibuprofen (50mg/kg). The antibacterial activity was also found effective at 10mg/ml.Keywords

Ophthalmic exercise is massage method that aims at promoting students awareness of eye production, improving blood circulation and relaxing muscles in ocular region, reducing the eye strain of students with myopia. The aim of the study to identify the effect of ophthalmic exercise among students with myopia at selected college Coimbatore. Quasi experimental one group pretest and post test research design was adopted in this study. The samples were selected using Non probability purposive sampling technique. Among 35 samples, 23 samples were Iyear, four samples were IIyear and eight samples were III year. The level of knowledge among students with myopia was assessed using self structured questionnaire before and after ophthalmic exercise. Ophthalmic exercise were demonstrated by using flashcard and slide projector and students continued to practice the exercises for 15 minutes twice a day for one week. The duration of exercise was 20 minutes. The level of eye strain was assessed by using asthenopic symptoms scale before and after intervention. It was identified that the mean level of knowledge among students with myopia during pre test and post test was 13.6 and 16.08 respectively with the standard deviation of pre test and post test was 0.64 and 1.59 respectively. The calculated ‘t ’ value 10.75 was greater than the table value 1.96 at 0.05 level of significance. It was identified that the mean level of eye strain among students during pretest and post test was 4.08 and 2 respectively with a standard deviation of pre test and post test was 2.01 and 1.19 respectively. The calculated ‘t’ value 5.94 was greater than the table value 1.96 at 0.001 Level of significance. Hence it was concluded that ophthalmic exercises is an effective intervention in reducing the level of eye strain among students with myopia.Keywords

Objective: Hibiscus plantifolius is a shrub with various medicinal uses and belongs to the Malvaceae family. The present study is aimed at determining in vivo antioxidant activity of MEHP using the paracetamol-induced hepatotoxicity test in rats. Methods: The animals were randomly divided into 7 experimental groups and administered with test solutions. Rats were divided into seven groups and received 10% DMSO (negative control), Paracetamol (2 gm/kg bd. wt.), Silymarin (10 mg/kg bd.wt.) or 50mg/kg MEHP (50, 150 and 300 mg/kg) orally once daily for 7 consecutive days. The oral administration of paracetamol was performed 3 hours after the last extract administration on the 7th day. The blood and liver tissues were collected and subjected to biochemical and microscopical analysis. Results: In this study, it was observed that MEHP extract significantly (p<0.05) increased hepatic SOD and CAT activities in paracetamol-induced liver damage in rats. The antioxidant activity was exhibited due to presence of flavonoids and tannins, phenolic compounds which was present methanolic extract of Hibiscus plantifolius. Conclusion: The antioxidant activity was exhibited due to presence of flavonoids and tannins, phenolic compounds which was present methanolic extract of Hibiscus plantifolius.Keywords

Objectives: The study is to assess the likely impact of the payment of royalty for trade mark obtained by the Theo Ruys Management & Holding B.V, a Netherland Company for rose varieties on rose cultivation and its profitability in Tamil Nadu State of India.
Methods and Statistical Analysis: The study heavily relied on time series data gathered from various published sources. Data were also collected by personal discussion with various stakeholders. Export instability in terms of quantity and value, unit value realization, cost and returns of rose cultivation and sensitivity analysis of costs and returns of rose cultivation incorporating the royalty payment were analyzed by estimating the averages and co-efficient of variations.
Findings: India’s rose export is phenomenal in the recent years due technological and policy supports nevertheless the fact remains that there is inconsistent supply but India continues to supply roses to major markets. No doubt, rose cultivators are realizing higher benefits and my conservative estimates say that farmers gained ₹12.99 lakh per acre of land per annum with a benefit –cost ratio of 1.36 ultimately famers are attracted to this locative business of production of roses. As a result, India continues to export roses however; payment of ₹1.20 per spike exported may result in losing the export market because the farmers incur loss in rose cultivation. The question remains that whether the small and marginal farmers should be exempted from paying such royalty? Does it feasible under the present IPR regime? Though India was exempted to avail certain benefits under WTO including the enacting its own IPR act under sui generis system to protect plants and conserve traditional germplasm, this type of demand would be possible under WIPO? Only alterative suggestions are gearing up the public R&D with professionalism to develop promising rose varieties suitable for export market with export quality traits and technology dissemination processes.
Applications and Improvements: Most of the earlier studies dealt with the economics of production and marketing of rose flowers wherein to some extent efficiency parameters such as technical, allocative and economic efficiencies were estimated. However, the present paper deviates from other studies and brought out the issues of IPR and its impact on domestic production and trade.

The Road Traffic Accident Statistics concluded that fatal road accident 60% is caused by vehicle collision of taxi drivers. World Health Organization (WHO) is constantly initiating global road safety measures to minimize road accidents but, the cause for fatal injuries is primarily due to driving fatigue. Most people rely on cabs as the main transport. To provide obligate care of passengers, a computer vision-based technique is needed to detect the somnolence of drivers. Our proposed model CabSafety is based non-intrusive computer vision technique using Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). A tiny camera is fixed focusing the driver’s face to monitor the behavioral changes like an eye blink, yawing, watery eye, mouth movement, and head position. The measures of the driver’s eye are concentrated to identify sleepiness under stimulator or test conditions. The efficiency of the proposed model provides better results compared to the existing technique. The image from the camera is processed by OpenCV and Keras/Tensor flow. CNN classifier is used to detect eye status. The prediction from the CNN classifier produces an alarm to alert the driver.Keywords
