Organophosphorus (OP) compounds are widely used insecticides in this part of the world. Organophosphorus compounds are responsible for a majority of suicidal attempt in India due to its easy availability. To determine the effect of organophosphorus compounds on hepatobiliary, pancreas, and muscular system and association of biochemical markers of respective systems to determine the outcome. This is a single-center, observational, prospective study conducted on 150 organophosphorus (OP) poisoning patients diagnosed clinically and with circumferential evidence. After admission, relevant biochemical markers of respective systems were done with standard guidelines. In patients where abnormality was found in serum amylase and lipase levels, ultrasonography and/or contrast-enhanced computed tomography evaluation of abdominal organs was done as per clinical indication. Among 150 patients, 17 (11.33%) patients succumbed to death. A significant association was observed between lipase level and treatment outcome. The odds ratio of death among high-level lipase group was 11.54 times higher than normal lipase group. Only four patients developed isolated creatine phosphokinase elevation with features suggestive of rhabdomyolysis. Isolated hepatic enzyme derangements found in only one case, whereas 5 patients had concurrent elevated lipase level. Organophosphorus-induced pancreatitis with or without hepatitis is often overlooked in acute poisoning which may be fatal. An early intervention often reverses this dreaded complication.Keywords

Spider species those are important for causing health related hazards, are different from continent to continent and even from country to country. Loxosceles species and Latrodectus species bites are common in South and North America are as Latrodectus species and Latrodectus hasselti bites are common in Africa and Australia respectively. In India spider bite, though common in clinical practice, but still inadequately reported. Though a large number of spider bites seemas harmless, our experience in clinical practice differs in most of the cases. Lack of large studies and few case reports from this part of the world, results in inadequate experience in dealing symptomatic bites. Here we report a middle aged housewife from the eastern part of India who comes to us with gradually progressive local inflammation after a spider bite. Her local inflammation rapidly spread in spite of conservative managements with NSAIDS, local agents, and steroids and only responds on adding Dapsone to the regimen. We confirm the spider as a species of Tarantula of genera chilobrachys with the help of Zoology department and share our experience as a successful treatment of rare an envenomation.Keywords

A desperate man will do just about anything! and in this desperation to end his life he would take recourse to whatever means is most easily available to him. India still having a predominantly agricultural population, the most commonly used chemical for attempted suicide is Organophosphorus. A new form of insecticide called Chlorantraniliprole has been recently launched in India and soon enough we encountered a patient presenting to us with history of ingesting 1 full bottle (175ml) of the chemical. As such we would like to report the first case of self-harm using Chlorantraniliprole in this part of the world.Keywords

Electromagnetic braking system uses magnetic force in order to stop the vehicle. In the present design, a disc with requisite number of solenoids has been arranged for achieving the purpose. While trying to stop the vehicle, the pilot needs to turn on the brake switch to supply electric power. Thereby a magnetic field will be developed on the ambience of the solenoids which will prohibit the rotation of the disc and eventually the vehicle will come to a halt. The wheel torque is evaluated from various experimental data and in this paper a comparison is made between the braking torque and wheel torque. Realistic calculation in this paper reveals that value of braking torque using electromagnetic brake can be made greater than the torque of the wheel, which is actually needed to stop any vehicle. Different braking modes have been achieved with Arduino, ATmega328p microcontroller based programming using ultrasonic sensors. This paper aims to find a faster, efficient and safe way of braking with almost no maintenance cost and least possibility of brake failure.Keywords
