Atorvastatin [R-(R*,R*)]-2-(4-fluorophenyl)-β, δ-dihydroxy-5-(1-methylethyl)-3-phenyl-4-[(phenyl amino)carbonyl]-1H-pyrrole 1-heptanoic acid an Anti-hyperlipidemia and Clopidogrel (2-Chloro phenyl, 6-7 dihydro4H thieno [3,2-c]pyridine-5-yl)acetic acid is an Anti-platelet drug and Aspirin (2-Acetoxy benzoic acid) an NSAIDs. This paper presents two methods i.e. first derivative spectrophotometery and multicomponent spectrophotometery for simultaneous estimation of these three drugs combination in pharmaceutical formulations. The first derivative amplitudes at 276, 226 and 222 nm were utilized for simultaneous estimations. The multicomponent amplitudes at 247, 220 and 235 nm were utilizatied. Proper selection of wavelength for estimations of one drug by other in derivative spectra and multicomponent lead to successful development of methods for simultaneous estimation. The results of analysis were validated statistically that included parameters such as precision, LOD, LOQ, recovery and robustness. Both methods were simple, economical, accurate, reproducible and precise.Keywords

A simple, sensitive, rapid and selective high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method has been developed and validated for the analysis of catechin in marketed Ayurvedic Taila (oil) formulations containing Acacia catechu. Chromatography of methanolic: 0.1% formic acid (7:3, v/v) extracts of these formulations was performed on C18 (5 μm×25 cm×4.6 mm i.d) column using isocratic mobile phase consisting of methanol:acetonitrile:water (40:15:45, v/v/v) containing 1.0% acetic acid at a flow rate of 0.5 ml/min and SPD-10 AVP photodiode array (PDA) UV-Visible detector. The analytical marker, catechin, was quantified at 279 nm. The retention time of catechin was about 3.27 min. The linear regression analysis data for the calibration plot showed a good linear relationship with correlation coefficient of 0.9988 in the concentration range of 15 to 90 μg/ml for catechin with respect to peak area. The limit of detection and limit of quantitation values were found to be 0.5 μg/ml and 1.7 μg/ml respectively. Repeatability of the method was found to be 0.62 RSD. Recovery values from 99.73 to 100.22% indicate excellent accuracy of the method. The developed HPLC method is accurate, precise, and cost-effective, and it can be successfully applied for the determination of catechin in marketed ayurvedic oil formulations containing Acacia catechu.Keywords

Kushta-e-gaodanti was prepared as per the method mentioned in Unani formulary. The raw materials, intermediates obtained during the preparation of kushta and the final product were characterized using modern analytical techniques like Fourier transform infra-red spectroscopy (FTIR). X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) and thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA). The study shows that the mineral Gaodanti (calcium sulphate dihydrate) is converted into calcium sulphate hemi hydrate on first calcination in earthen pot sealed with the process gil-e-hikmat. Further on calcination this intermediate is transformed to kushta-e-gaodanti which is orthorhombic α-calcium sulphate anhydride. Kushta-e-gaodanti is a fine powder with particle size 7-8 micrometer, calcium content 29.32%, bulk density 0.928, tapped density 1.268, angle of repose 36.67° and the value of Carr’s index is 47.08. Loss on drying at 110°C and loss on ignition was not more than 0.5 %w/w and 0.05% w/w respectively. Microbial load of the preparation was found negative for the presence of Escherichia coli, Salmonella species and Staphylococcus aureus. Total aerobic count was under acceptance limit. Trace element analysis of bhasma by ICP-OES revealed the presence of some other important metals like arsenic, lead, chromium, cadmium, mercury, tin under acceptable limits at prescribed dose.Keywords

Diabetes is the most prevailing disease worldwide and emerged as the fourth leading cause of mortality. Inhibition of intestinal α-Glucosidase enzyme is an effective approach for controlling post prandial hyperglycemia. α-Glucosidase inhibitors are known to be very effective in decreasing post-prandial hyperglycemia but the existing drugs are weak inhibitors of α-Glucosidase and also have side effects. Hence it needs for new therapeutic candidate which can effectively inhibit the activity of α-Glucosidase. Flavones recognized as the potential lead structure for many pharmacological activities. In the present research work 3D QSAR (comparative molecular field analysis and comparative molecular similarity indices analysis) was carried out on a series of flavones to identify structural requirement for effective inhibition of α-Glucosidase enzyme. The QSAR results shows that the LOO cross-validated q2 values of CoMFA and CoMSIA models are 0.742 and 0.759, respectively. The outcome of this research work could be effectively utilized for design of better α-Glucosidase inhibitors.Keywords
