Abstract

This paper presents a method to solve word sense ambiguity using neural network. Most of the previous word sense disambiguation approaches were based on neural networks, having limitations due to their huge feature set size. Here, trigram method is adopted in three ways:pre-trigram (wr1r2-ambiguous word (w) and immediate two right words (r1r2)), in-trigram (l1wr1-immediate left word (l1), ambiguous word (w) and immediate right word (r1)) and post-trigram (l2l1w-immediate left two words (l2l1) and ambiguous word (w)). Three trigram features are treated as input for five different neural networks, defined with one hidden layer with hidden neurons ranging from two to twenty. The input model is extracted from Brown corpus. In this, the performances of the networks are compared using mean squared error (mse) values. Among all networks, in-trigram based pattern recognition neural network gives 78.15% of accuracy.

Abstract

Diabetes is the chronic and most complication producing disease, not only it affects the physical well being also affects the psychological wellbeing. Worldwide 371 million people are affected by diabetes and India alone 47 million. Diabetes is the stressor which may leads to stress among those affected with this disease. Assessment of the level of stress can help them to council and improve from stress. This study assessed the perceived level of stress in diabetic clients. Descriptive research design was adapted for this study. The study was conducted at Melmaruvathur Adhiparasakthi Institute of Medical Sciences with 50 diabetic clients. Cohen's perceived stress scale was used to assess the level of stress. The result revealed that 52% of the diabetic clients have high level of stress, the mean 29.2, SD 4.103. Age, occupation and dietary pattern had significant association with stress level.

Abstract

Depression is the most common mental disorder among elderly especially in developing countries, causes can be multifactorial and it is poorly reported also not much concentrated by the health professionals. Elderly residing in the old age home that is away from their family experience more depression than others.

Objective: to assess the prevalence of depression and to associate the level of depression with their demographic variables.

Methods: descriptive survey approach was used in this study. Study was conducted at selected old age home, Kancheepuram district Tamilnadu. Total of 30 subjects those fulfilled inclusive criteria were utilized in this study. Considering all ethical aspect Geriatric Depression Ratting scale was used to assess the prevalence of depression.

Results: majority 66.66% of elderly had mild depression. Depression had significant association with the age of the elderly.
