Abstract

In the present era millions of people are challenged with chronic debilitating disorders which can be controlled but not cured. So long term medication and its adherence are important factors in successful management of chronic diseases. Non-adherence not only leads to serious health consequences but also raises the healthcare costs. The present study compares the patients' attitude of medication adherence towards four chronic diseases i.e. diabetes, arthritis, asthma and hypertension. A purposive sample of 160 patients comprising of males and females in the age range of 30-50 years was drawn from OPDs' of various departments of PGIMS, Rohtak and private clinics of Rohtak city. Patients' medication adherence was assessed by using Medication Adherence Rating Scale. Results indicated that overall 66.9% patients showed adherence. The patients with diabetes showed maximum adherence (80%), followed by asthma (70.73%), hypertension (65.85%) and arthritis (59.90%). ANOVA followed by t-tests indicated significant differences between patients of different chronic diseases. Socio-demographic factors did not show any significant effect on medication adherence except for education and duration of illness. A few strategies to strengthen the attitude towards medication adherence are discussed.

Abstract

Fathering/Mothering refers to a privilege or responsibility of mother and father together or independently to prepare the child for society and culture with a purpose to provide them with ample opportunity to find ischolar_mains, continuity and sense of belongingness. Though both mother and father are the builders of psychological assets, adolescents' perception of mother differ significantly from that of their father. Therefore, the present study was designed to explore the role of mother/father separately in developing hope, self-confidence and inspiration among adolescents. A purposive sample of 200 adolescents both male and female of 17-22 years old was drawn from Rohtak city, Haryana. A correlational analysis was carried out to find the relationship between mothering/fathering and the psychological growth. The findings reveal an almost similar influence of mothering/fathering on the psychological strengths under study. Results indicate the enhancing effect of mothering/fathering on hope and inspiration and its failure in fostering self-confidence.

Abstract

Population aging is one of the humanity's greatest triumphs. India is facing the biggest challenge because of alarming rise in elderly population. So the concern about the psychosocial well-being of geriatrics is a key research agenda for researchers. The present study is an attempt to explore the level of hope, spirituality and subjective wellbeing of elderly. Apurposive sample consisted of 200 old people of both sex (male and female) age 60-80 years was selected from the urban area of Rohtak city. Descriptive statistics was calculated to find out the levels of hope, spirituality and subjective well-being. Results revealed that high level of hope and spirituality and average level of subjective well-being among geriatrics. Further stepwise multiple regression revealed that hope than spirituality emerged as a robust predictor of subjective well-being. The manifest psychological strengths may serve as a cause of longevity among contemporary geriatrics.

Abstract

Now a days more and more women are entering the corporate world. A portray of women has changed from homemaker to bread earner. The sense of self is the product of interaction with them in the real world. Hence, resulting in enhanced self worth. Thus with this frame work in mind, present study is an attempt to assess and compare the self-esteem of employed v/s unemployed women. A purposive sample of 300 women (150 employed and 150 unemployed) aged 25-45 years working in the different departments at different hierarchy of ranks from Rohtak City. descriptive and inferential statistics were used to compute data and found significant difference in the level of self-esteem of employed v/s unemployed women. The interventions to boost self-esteem among unemployed are discussed in the paper.

Abstract

Gender is an important schema that guides the way we see ourselves and the world at large. Gender concepts are learned from one's particular society. Such concepts not only shape one's behavior but also psychological characteristics such as emotional and cognitive states (hope, self-esteem and self-efficacy). The present study is an attempt to explore the gender differences in the levels of cognitive states, quality of life and the predicting power of cognitive states in quality of life of youth. A purposive sample of 300 students consisting both males (n=110) and females (n=190) aged 18-22 years was drawn from various colleges of Rewari and Gurgaon districts of Haryana. Descriptive and inferential statistics reveal almost similarity in the levels of cognitive states as well as overall quality of life in both sexes. However, gender differences are observed to some extent in various domains of quality of life. Further, stepwise multiple regression analysis highlights the gender specific pattern of predicting power of different cognitive states with regards to overall quality of life and its related domains.

Abstract

Life is a precious gem whose glitter depends upon the style we adopt. Today, in most developing nations the leading causes of illness and death have shifted from communicable diseases to those chronic diseases[ such as diabetes, heart attack, stroke, Asthma and depression] which are strongly linked with the personal life style. Youth is the most affected generation who is in the strong grip of ill-being. So it is a matter of great concern that one should focus on health promotion which is motivated by the desire to increase well-being and actualize human health potential. Life style appears to be be a vital marker of well- being. With this notion the researchers decided to explore the prevalence of life style and the level of well-being of youth, along with the anticipatory power of lifestyle with regard to well-being. A purposive sample of 200 youth aged 18-22 yrs old, both male and female was drawn from the various colleges of Rohtak city. Results revealed the healthy lifestyle and higher quality of well-being as maintained by the youth. Further regression analysis showed life style s as a potent predictor of well-being.

Abstract

Modern era is an era of advance technology. Human agency is key, because the technological effects depend upon how people decide to use it. In the contemporary digital world, the millennial can never think of the world without the internet, consequently youngsters invest more efforts to be in touch with their closer ties and thus reap maximum benefits while interacting with others. They feel happy and empowered while living in a virtual world. With these notions in mind the present researcher decided to conduct a study to highlight the level of happiness and internet usage among adolescents and to explore the relationship between these two variables while controlling other confounding variables (such as socio-economic factors) leading to happiness. A purposive sample of 60 adolescents, 13-18 years old both male and female was drawn from schools of Rohtak city, Haryana (India). Their happiness level was measured by Argyle et al. questionnaire of Oxford Happiness and internet usage was assessed by Young's Internet Addiction test. The levels of happiness and internet usage were analyzed by computing descriptive statistics and their correlation was found by using Pearson r. The findings and their implications have been discussed in the paper.

Abstract

Humans are at core social beings whose survival depends on interactions with others. The powerful communication depends on one's body language, tone and mirror neurons, which are no doubt conspicuously missing during digital interaction. Such electronic interactions don't carry the same emotional weight as a face to face tangible interaction. The most adverse effect of digital revolution can be seen on teenager's "Empathy Map", whose level of empathy is dropping at fast pace since last two decades. They are being converted from human teens to cyber teens. With this changing scenario, the present study is an attempt to explore the levels of empathy, sympathy and internet usage among teenagers and further to find out the relation of empathy and sympathy with internet usage. A purposive sample of 60 teenagers both male and female aged 13-18 years old from various school of Rohtak city, Haryana (India) was drawn. Their empathy and sympathy were measured by using Vossen et al. test of Adolescent Measure of Empathy and Sympathy and internet usage was assessed by Young's Internet Addiction test. Descriptive and correlational statistics were computed to find out the levels of empathy sympathy and internet usage and the correlation of empathy- sympathy with internet usage respectively. The results have been discussed in detail in the research paper.

Abstract

Youth culture is glorified which is indeed empowered by social media which has created digital natives whose wealth laden mindset is very much prevalent, who are miraculously under the influence of social media, which no doubt shapes their pattern of behaviour. Nowadays the challenges of social media in terms of promoting social illnesses are increasing rapidly. With these notions in mind, the present study is an attempt to assess affluenza, usage of social media and to explore the role of social media in cultivating affluenza among young adults. A purposive sample of students ranging from 20-22 years from Delhi NCR was taken and data were statistically analysed. The findings revealed the moderate level of affluenza among youth and high level of usage of social media where maximum usage is reflected in the domain of information followed by academics, entertainment and least for socialization. Further correlation analyses indicated that there existed positive significant moderate level of link between affluenza and usage of social media. The maximum positive relationship between the socialization has been found with affluenza thereby indicating that interaction with others may primarily serve as a major source of affluenza. The current findings have unravelled the hidden adverse impact of usage of social media on adults' mind.
