Studies on the application of functional lipids such as Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids (PUFAs) have proceeded in various fields in search of novel and rich sources for health and dietary requirements. Natural limitations favour a novel approach for the production of omega-3 fatty acids. A series of PUFAs including Eicosapentanoic acid (EPA) and Docosahexanoic acid (DHA) have widespread nutritional and pharmaceutical values. This study investigated the potential production of these two economically important fatty acids from fungi. The microorganisms used were Trichoderma sp and Aspergillus niger, isolated from soil. The use of Trichoderma sp. is preferred since it produced considerable amounts of EPA and DHA. This paper presents the results on the ratios of EPA and DHA produced by these microorganisms and recovery aspects.Keywords

Badagas are the original settlers of the Nilgiris district,Tamil Nadu in Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve falling in Western Ghats. Eight selected medicinal plants alleged to cure liver disorders are subjected to phytochemical screening and two plants assayed for antioxidant activity in the present study. The medicinal plants. Embelia basaal contains the maximum number of bioactive compounds like alkaloids, flavanoids, saponins and tannins, followed by Heracleum sprengelianum which shows alkaloids, glycosides, flavanoids and saponins. Givotia rottlariformis possesses saponnins, tannins and triterpenes only. The antioxidant activity of methanolextract of Givotia rottlariformis shows the highest activity about 5-6times more than that of ascorbic acid (the standard); whereas the methanol extract of Embelia basaal exhibits only about 3 times more than that of ascorbic acid. Therefore, crude drug preparations for jaundice therapy may be attempted utilizing these two folklore medicinal plants.

To aid radiologist in early detection of breast cancer a retrospective study of mammograms was conducted. In this pioneer study screening mammograms that were normal and malignant mass categories were analyzed. For each of the mammographic projection of normal and abnormal breast, one region was marked: 1) Region one which is corresponded to the normal mammogram report. 2) Region two, which corresponded to the site where the malignant mass developed. All the regions were marked as Circle with specified radius. The texture and photometric image features were then calculated for all of the marked areas. The resulting feature values for the two groups of normal regions and abnormal regions then form the input to Stepwise discriminant analysis for dimension reduction. This analysis examines all the features and determines the ones that can best distinguish between the two groups of normal and abnormal regions. Then also creates the support vector machine, the best linear classification, which can be used to classify new cases. At its current stage, the system can be used by a radiologist to examine any pattern in a mammogram. The regions which are flagged by the system have a 72% chance of developing a malignant mass by the time of the next screening. Therefore, further evaluation of these patients (e.g., a screening examination sooner than the normal one year interval) could result in earlier detection of breast cancer. The ultimate goal is to run the system automatically over the whole mammogram and flag any suspicious region. The study is validated using the mammograms obtained from the online Mammographic Image Analysis Society (MIAS) Digital Mammogram database.Keywords

A Proportional Integral derivative controller is a most commonly used feedback controller in industrial control system. Although a proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller is popular and relatively simple in structure, it must also be pointed out that the unnecessary mathematical rigorosity, preciseness and accuracy involved with the design of the controllers have been a major drawback. This drawback can be highly eliminated by designing systems with PD controller to improve the system performance. In this paper genetic algorithm technique is used to design the Proportional Derivative Fuzzy logic controller. A comparative study of PD, fuzzy based PD and optimized fuzzy logic PD controller is analyzed. Simulation result shows that the optimized proportional derivative fuzzy logic controller improves the system performance in terms of rise time and settling time, besides reducing overshoot and steady state error. This approach is first simulated using MATLAB / SIMULINK using the techniques of PD- Fuzzy Logic controller. The output of the PD controller serves as an input to the DC motor [9][10]. The desired speed of the motor is then achieved by tuning the fuzzy controller with the help of genetic algorithm technique.Keywords

Objectives: Recommender systems in an E-commerce scenario, aim at improving a product’s visibility to a customer. Existing recommendation systems incorporate traditional algorithms and have not been built to consider many behavioral patterns of the user. This opens a huge scope for improvement. Methods/Statistical Analysis: The proposed research work is set to an emphasis on the user’s social network, location, history, patterns based on history (time series), relationship between users, similarity between users and similarity between the items that are in the subset of recommendations to be made. The raw data collected is first fed into a Bi-clustering algorithm called the Bi-Max. Then, Pearson’s Coefficient is used to find the degree of similarity and filter out similar users based on a set threshold. Further filtering is done based on user networks and location of the user based on their latitudinal and longitudinal data obtained. Findings: The similar product has identified based on the degree of similarity. Similar users have been filtered out from the large set of users. It is much more likely that a given user will find a product that they would be interested in. Applications/Improvements: The proposed system has been used for the online purchase of any product. The performance of the proposed system was compared with the traditional approach of K-Means algorithm and the results show increased efficiency produced the recommendation by the proposed model.Keywords

Background of the Study: Low birth weight constitutes 30% of live birth which becomes a major health problem for neonatal deaths. KMC adherence is of primary importance for decreasing neonatal deaths. The aim of this study is to provide knowledge regarding KMC among mothers of low birth weight babies.
Objective: To assess the knowledge regarding KMC among mothers of low birth weight babies.
Design and Methods: Pre - experimental one group pre test post test design was used. Thirty mothers were selected by Convenient sampling technique. The pre-test was administered by structured knowledge questionnaire followed by structured teaching programme. After 7 days, the Post-test was administered by the same structured knowledge questionnaire for evaluating the effectiveness of STP on kangaroo mother care among mothers of low birth weight babies. The questionnaire was categorized the knowledge level such as inadequate knowledge level, Moderate knowledge level, and adequate knowledge level.
Data analysis: The obtained data was analyzed using descriptive, in terms of objectives and hypothesis of the study, inferential statistics and interpreted. The level of significance was set at 0.05 levels.
Results: The finding of the study revealed that there was a marked increase in overall knowledge score of post test than the pre test score which represent the effectiveness of STP (t=3.04; p<0.005).
Conclusions: The study concluded based on findings suggested that STP was effective among mothers of low birth weight babies for improve knowledge regarding kangaroo mother care.

Objectives: Optimizing the resource allocation to improve throughput in the downlink of OFDMA based wireless cellular networks. Method/Statistical Analysis: In the proposed method, a multi-level queue based resource allocation is proposed where different classes of users will be assigned different queues and different algorithms can be applied to them. The algorithm is implemented and its performance is analyzed and the results are collected and compared with the existing solutions to evaluate the algorithm behavior under different channel conditions. Findings: The algorithm improves the performance and ensures the fairness among the various classes of users based upon the chosen parameters. Also, the algorithm can be configured to either improve the throughput or ensure the fairness depending on the requirements. Applications/Improvement: The algorithm improves the performance and provides a way for different classes of users to be assigned different priorities.Keywords

Objective: The study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of STP on care of children with genetic disorders among III year B.Sc Nursing students. Design and Method: A one group pre test - post test design was used. A sample of 78 students was selected by convenience sampling technique. Descriptive statistic like percentage, mean, standard deviation and inferential statistic like paired 't' test, was used. Result: The result shows that in pretest 70 (90%) students had inadequate knowledge, 8 (10%) students had moderately adequate knowledge regarding care of children with genetic disorders. In post test 9 (12%) students had moderately adequate knowledge and 69 (88%) students had adequate knowledge regarding care of children with genetic disorders. Conclusion: The result revealed that after Structured teaching programme there was improvement in the level of knowledge of III year B.Sc Nursing students. Such a teaching programme can be carried out in the hospital and community to improve the health of children and thereby reduce the morbidity and mortality rate among children.Keywords

Objectives: Watermarking technique on digital images with improved robustness and with optimum results can be achieved by using the intelligent technique Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) is used to uncover perceptually significant coefficients from the digital image. Methods: PSO is one amongst the efficient techniques in optimizing a problem having many numbers of candidates. This robust technique consists of two stages namely embedding and extraction stages. Insertion of watermark into the image is done at the embedding stage. Before embedding watermark into the image perform DWT and select any one of the bands LL, LH, HL and HH. Initially select the coefficients randomly and the optimal DWT coefficients for embedding the watermark at various positions are identified by PSO. Findings: In watermark extraction stage, the embedded watermark is identified by doing the reverse process. Robustness of the digital image watermarks implies the strength of the watermark against various image processing attacks and this can be checked by evaluating Cross Correlation value that is Normalized (NCC) and for fidelity Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR). It is evident that the robustness of the image is well maintained by this technique. As a further improvement any of the other intelligent technique namely Ant Colony Optimization can be used for optimization evaluation. Applications: Digital image watermarking plays a vital role in copyright infringement issues and it helps in predicting the authorized user by the digital signature that is watermarked in the image.Keywords

Background/Objective: A high dimensional data is a dataset that ranges from a few to a hundreds of dimensions. Clustering such datasets needs an efficient algorithm such as Proclus but the algorithm has a drawback of ignoring cluster with small data points. So the proposed paper gives an ensemble of clustering that combines technique of two clustering algorithms to achieve a quality cluster of even small data points. Methods/Statistical Analysis: The research paper adapts a novel method of implementing a density based approach over a Proclus algorithm to cluster even small data points. These combined algorithms are tested using synthetic datasets. The Proclus algorithm is modified at a specific point where the density based algorithm is implemented. Findings: The results of the proposed algorithm are found to contain more clusters than mere Proclus algorithm does. The results is as such because in Proclus clustering the data point whose size is small are ignored so that only clusters with large number of data points can exists. However after the involvement of the shared nearest neighbor density based algorithm even the small data points are clustered which paves way for a more accurate and an efficient clustering process especially in a high dimensional data. Applications/Improvements: The application is a combination of two efficient algorithms but implemented in a simple way thereby reducing the complexity of the algorithm. The proposed technique can be applied on all high dimensional datasets irrespective of their sizes and shapes.Keywords

Background/Objectives: Clustering and Sequential Pattern Mining is two most important unsupervised learning algorithms. The objective is to mine small projected databases rejected by Frequent Pattern - Projected Sequential Pattern mining (FreeSpan) technique using a weighted distance metric clustering method, a process of finding the distance between the small data points and cluster it so that it cannot be rejected. Methods/Statistical Analysis: The method involves the implementation of a distance metric clustering algorithm over a FreeSpan technique to cluster the data points of small projected databases. The FreeSpan technique can be considered as an ensemble of clustering and sequential pattern mining methods. Findings: The clustering method clusters the data points resulted from the FreeSpan technique that are ignored after the scanning process as their sizes are very small. The clustered data therefore gathers the ignored data points thereby providing an accurate clustered data containing small data points which results is trustable sequential pattern for future predictions. The proposed system reduces the complexity by incorporating just a single clustering algorithm. Therefore the major operations of the algorithm remain undisturbed and give its efficient output and also the output is found to be accurate and stable. Applications/Improvements: The technique proposed in the paper can be applied to datasets that needs to be clustered for decision making. The same technique holds good and can be made applicable to high dimensional views.Keywords

Objective: The proposed topic is implemented for the development of an automatic computerized solar radiation tracker and using power in home appliances. Other resource of energy are short term, thus solar energy is an emerging new source fuel, that can be applied to any source and it is been widely used. Methods: The aim of this research work is to monitor feasible approachto maximize the efficiency of solar array systems. Proposed in this report is a system that controls the movement of a solar array so that it is constantly aligned towards the direction of the sun and that there is a constant power supply without any hindrance. This is achieved by applying the measurements using Mathematical Morphological Operators. Existing tracking systems focus on directing the sun rays towards the solar panel and it lands up in manual operation. To overcome this problem a computerized system is proposed to enhance the proposed model to have a vital role in tracking the solar system used to get the energy. To find the region or the path in the solar panel morphological operator is applied to have a calculated process. Thus this proposed system helps to locate and redirect the deviated and lost energy rays. Findings: Solar Energy is a vital resource nowadays to operate any kind of appliances. In countries like India solar energy is a big boon as the summer is long and this paves for more solar power. In this abstract development of an automatic computerized solar radiation tracker and using power in home appliances is discussed. Solar panels or modules are devices that convert sunlight into electricity and offer a practical solution to the problem of power generation in remote areas. The Proposed Computerized solar tracker designed and constructed offers a reliable and affordable method of aligning a solar module with the sun in order to maximize its energy output. Automatic Sun Tracking System is a combination of both hardware and software (hybrid) hardware prototype, which automatically provides best alignment of solar panels according to the sunrays position, to get maximum output. Application: Thus this system can be implemented to enhance the working technology of the methods available for a better usage of the solar power.Keywords

Nanofibrous membrane (NFM) of PVDF blended with Al doped nanoZnO was successfully fabricated through electro spinning process. In the present study, the Al doped nanoZnO was synthesized through Sol-gel (SG) route utilizing starch as a stabilizing agent and analyzed by x-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and Scanning electron microscope (SEM) with energy dispersive X-ray (EDAX) analysis. Then Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) was utilized to characterize the membrane, and it was found that a stabilized morphology with a size of 300 to 400 nm. Hydrophobic PVDF membrane with a contact angle (CA) 124.70° was prepared by electrospinning of nanoZnO blended PVDF. The CA investigational outcomes of PVDF-ZnO blended membranes demonstrated an enhancement of hydrophilicity with nano ZnO.Keywords

The plants are one of the common and highly useful medicinal sources that are used since ages. Every single parts of plant like leaves, stem, ischolar_mains, seeds, fruits and flowers has its very own restorative medicinal properties and applications. They are the rich sources of natural phytoconstitutents and have more therapeutic potentials which are used for drug development. Medicinal plants are essential wellspring of organic compounds. The Aromatic plant Ocimum tenuiflorum commonly called as Tulsi and Alpinia galanga commonly as greater Galangal are two of the natural plants that are loaded with more medicinal properties like antimicrobial, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, etc. Tulsi is known as ‘Queen of Herbs’ and its eugenol a phenolic phytoconstituent which is responsible for therapeutic actions against skin infections, diabetes, neuralgia, cancer, respiratory, gastric, cardiac and genitourinary disorders, digestion issues and so on. Galangal mainly the rhizome part is famous for food spices and its fragrance. It has more potency to fight against different kinds of cancer; it is a good anti-inflammatory agent and antimicrobial agent and a perfect free radical scavenger. The both ayurvedic plant species have a predominant solution to modern lifestyle health related issues. Their activities get more enhanced when their extract are combined as both the benefits act for a single cause. This paper summaries the pharmacological activity of both Ocimum tenuiflorum and Alpinia galanga and their combined effects.Keywords

Zinc oxide (ZnO) is an inorganic compound which is insoluble in water. This is used as an additive in many materials. Due to its antibacterial activity ZnO used in many medical applications. ZnO nanoparticles can be synthesised using green method, and characterized. For the analysis of particle size and structure XRD is used. FTIR is used to analyse the functional group. The surface morphology of the material analysed using SEM. EDAX is used to analyse the elemental group present in the material. In antibacterial activity the zone of inhibition for different bacteria are measured.

Secure data transfer is intended to keep data safe from illegal access, damage, or disruption. In this proposed technique, an intrusion prevention system is built to counter the rapidly growing threats offered by the current generation of malware, software, and exploits. As the number of intruders has grown, the network environment has become more complicated, making threat mitigation more difficult. Modern wireless sensor networks have emerged for the aim of transmitting important information and services to an ever-growing set of users. Security is the most important issues in wireless network. Using this proposed Multi Hop Trust Management (MHTM) approach; trust management technique is used to identify the trusted nodes with malicious node. Then secured and efficient way of data transmission are directed and communicated to any kind of networks re confirmed here. The result attained shows MHTM technique attains better performance than TSRP in stipulations of energy efficiency, data transmission delay, communication overhead, throughput, malicious sensor device misclassification rate and identification.Keywords
