Abstract

The major objective of the present study was to explore the nature of social identity and subjective well being among the members of Hindu and Muslim community. The sample composed of 40 Hindu and 40 Muslim participants. The 2x2x2 factorial design was used for the study. To know the effect of independent variables, a Univariate factorial ANOVA was performed. The finding suggests that Muslim community has scored high on social identity scale in comparison to Hindu community. Whereas, gender and age level has no significant effect on social identity. The community and gender has no significant difference on the level of subjective well being (SWB) but age level has significant effect on SWB. Young adults of both community and both gender have high scores on SWB. A significant positive correlation was found between social dentity and subjective well being.

Abstract

The problem of depression is very common and serious among people. The depression can affect a person's thought, feeling, behavior and sense of wellbeing whereas Resilience is the process of adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats and significant source of stress. The purpose of this study was to explore the nature of depression among the low and high resilient people. A sample of 180 respondents (90 low resilient& 90 high resilient) of two genders Male & Female and three age groups (18-22, 23-28 & 29-35) were taken. Thus the design was 2×2×3.Brief Resilience scale and Beck depression inventory was used. The analyses revealed that the two genders differ significantly on the level of depression. The interaction effect of resilience and gender was found to be significant further the interaction of resilience, gender and age was also found to be significant.

Abstract

This study was planned to conceptualize the concept of belongingness among Indian people. The study aims the three basic objectives- what is the concept or what is the Indian population's sense of belonging among the people of different ages, genders and environments? When these people feel that they belong to someone or something and why these people belong to groups? A sample of total 262 respondents was taken with the representation of four ages groups. A semi structured open ended interview schedule was uses to get responses and content analyses of the responses were done. The analyses revealed that 'love and affection', 'sharing of feelings', 'love for family' and 'Connection' were emerged as the most frequent responses for the concept of belongingness with little variations in different age groups. The next analyses revealed that the following situations on the 'loss of something or someone they loved', when 'they felt love and affection for someone', 'which is useful for them' and for whom 'who helped them in difficulties', made them felt that they belonged to someone and something. The last analyses showed that with little variations in the percentages, all the groups of respondents revealed that group belongingness is necessary for 'attachment', to 'help each-others', to learn 'good morals' and to 'gain identity, happiness and satisfaction' from groups.
