The extensive damage to natural ecosystems at large due to climate-led variability and vulnerability poses a serious threat to human life. Environmental sustainability is a criterion for economic progress and poverty bargain in Asia. Climate change accelerated by human-induced pressures is threatening the development and security of Asia. The poor are particularly vulnerable to these changes and are already suffering from rising sea levels and increasingly devastating storms, droughts and floods. Urgent action is needed to integrate both extenuation of greenhouse gas emissions and climate change adaptation measures into the development strategy of the region.- Dhrubjyoti Ghosh (1947–2018)

Dr Dhrubajyoti Ghosh noted stalwart and wetlands warrior of East Kolkata Wetlands (EKWs), as well as Regional Chair South Asia for International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Commission on Ecosystems Management (CEM), passed away on 16 February 2018. Indeed, it is a great loss for many working in conserving urban green and blue spaces and using nature-based solutions to address various environmental challenges and emerging threats. Ghosh, a UN Global 500 laureate and the first Indian recipient of the prestigious Luc Hoffmann Award during World Conservation Congress at Hawaii in 2016, was an ardent follower of nature-based solutions and ecosystem-based approaches.References

The interpretation of the resistivity method depends on acquired resistivity contrast between the contaminated object and the host matrix. The present attempt reports preliminary understanding of the sensitivity of resistivity method to monitor herbicide 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) contamination in order to produce a reference dataset to develop a geophysical method to monitor soil bioremediation of herbicidecontaminated soil. Laboratory level experiments were carried out to define the correlation between herbicide concentration (Hc) and resistivity in non-polarizable (milli q double distilled water of 5.9 μs/cm EC) and sandy soil matrix. The results confirm that the resistivity method can be used for the purpose of monitoring herbicide by adopting formation factor as 2.5 for the sandy soil matrix. The results indicate that moisture content of soil affects the resistivity parameter and it should be considered in the interpretation of data. Keywords
