Background: Carcinoma of the cervix is the second most common cancer amongst women and one of the leading cause of cancer death.
Objectives: To study prevalence of cervical cancer in tertiary care centre and need to create awareness about it.
Method: 300 subjects between the age group of 18-70 years visiting Gynecological OPD of tertiary care centre from December 2009 to February 2010 were enrolled.
Results: The prevalence of cervical cancer was 7 cases in the study group of 300. The mean score of awareness regarding cervical cancer was 8.09 out of maximum score of 20. Only 37.7% had adequate knowledge whereas 187 (62.3%) had meagre knowledge.
Conclusion: The percentage of cervical cancer was found to be 2.3% and all the patients had squamous cell carcinoma while large percentage of study subjects (62.3%) were unaware regarding cervical cancer.

The adverse effect of fungi Beauveria bassiana and Metarhizium anisopliae on the morphology of male meiotic chromosomes of grasshopper Acrida turrita was studied. Significant increase in the induction of aberrations as sickness, clumping pseudobridges, laggards, polyploid cells, extra element and stretching was manifested in treated grasshoppers as compared to control. Both the fungi induced a dose and time dependent increase in the number of chromosome aberrations. The frequency of production of percentage aberrations by B. bassiana in grasshopper was 6.50, 6.56, 7.24 with 10%, 7.12, 7.60, 8.16 with 20%, 9.45,10.04,10.25 with 30% after 6, 8, 10 hours respectively and 4.24, 5.60, 5.54 with 10%, 6.51, 6.98, 9.10 with 20% and 7.51, 8.21, 10.25 with 30% at 6, 8, 10 hours respectively by M. anisopliae. Keywords

In most of the developing countries including India, carcinoma of the cervix is the most common malignancy in the females. But, it is the easiest female cancer to prevent through screening using pap smear if people are aware of its early prevention. Therefore, a study was conducted to assess the awareness of women regarding cervical cancer and its association with selected variables. In view of the nature of the problem a descriptive approach and non-experimental research design was chosen for the study. The conceptual framework of the study was based on Betty Newman's Health system model. The study was conducted on a group of 300 women visiting Gynecology OPD of Guru Gobind Singh Medical College Hospital, Faridkot, Punjab. A Self structured interview schedule was used to assess the awareness of the women. The findings of the study showed that 37.7% of the women had adequate awareness while 62.3% were inadequately aware of cervical cancer. By using pearson's chi square as method of statistical analysis a significant association was found between awareness level of the women and their educational status, age at marriage, occupation, monthly family income, H/O menstrual disorder at p<0.05. This concluded that inspite of being the most common malignancy in the females, they are inadequately aware of it. Therefore awareness campaigns should be arranged to make the people aware of this dreadly but preventable disease. Keywords
