Background: Natural birth has always allowed women to keep her power and strength for birth. Water birth is a method of child birth that occurs in water. Nowadays water birth is a wonderful experience which enables gentle, joyous and empowering labor for the mother. The aim of the study is to assess the level of knowledge among staff nurses at NRI general hospital, chinakakni Guntur district Andhra Pradesh with their demographic variables. Methodology: Quantitative approach and descriptive design were used to assess the knowledge regarding water birth at selected hospital in April 2018. Hundred staff nurses were selected for this study by using convenience sampling technique. A structured knowledge questionnaire was used to collect data. Results: Among 100 staff nurses 93(93%) have inadequate knowledge, 6 (6%) have moderate knowledge,1(1%) have adequate knowledge with mean and standard deviation of 13.29 and 4.68. A significant association was found between knowledge of water birth with their demographic variables like religion (x2=15.3) at 0.05 level of significance. Conclusion: Majority of the staff nurses had inadequate knowledge about water birth. Significant association is found between the knowledge of nursing staff on water birth with their religion.Keywords
