Sequential Varied Presentation of Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy: Diagnosis and its Management

Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy (TCM) is a reversible cardiac disease with good prognosis and presentation similar to acute coronary syndrome. Most of the times, it occur secondary to the stress encountered during the perioperative period. It can even present at a later time during postoperative period making the diagnosis difficult. High sympathetic outflow can be prevented by long term beta blockade and acute prevention by alpha adrenergic blockade with dexmedetomidine. Multidisciplinary approach with preoperative counselling can result in the reduction of stress factors and reduced incidence of stress induced cardiomyopathy.
