Policing:Reinvention Strategies in a Marketing Framework

The issue of reinventing public services has occupied considerable space in public administration discourse for some time now with the advent of New Public Management (NPM) and more recently the paradigm of Networked Governance. However, the issue of reform of policing has been in the back seat especially in Indian academia. Apart from a few autobiographies by illustrious police officers, police reforms have not been talked about in India. A notable work in this field was Arvind Verma’s book, ‘The Indian Police: A Critical Evaluation’. That book, however, was more of a comprehensive situation analysis while Rohit Choudhary has focussed more on the cultural shift within the police departments across the country.
