The paper attempts to survey the achievements already made and the landmark developments that are taking place in the telecommunication sector in India. It gives emphasis to the technology and the present state of affairs of the value-added services like radio paging, cellular telephones, e-mail, voice mail, data services, audiotex, videotex, and videoconferencing which were thrown open to the private sector in this decade. It also covers the major telecommunication technologies that are considered for adoption in the country.Keywords

In a knowledge based economy, Knowledge Management (KM) activities are significant in University Libraries for their competitiveness and self sustainability. This paper takes a look at the present status of University Libraries and brings out some of the KM practices followed in the libraries of major technology enterprises like Hewlett Packard (HP) and Microsoft. It asserts the need of Communities of Practice (CoP) in the libraries of universities, as a tool of knowledge creation process for the academic knowledge management strategy.Keywords
