Jawarish Bisbasa (JBS) is a polyherbal Unani formulation clinically indicated for the treatment of Zof-e-Meda (Stomach Weakness), Zof-e-Hazm (Dyspepsia), Bawaseer Amya (Blind piles), Nafkh-e-Shikam (Flatulence) and Ghasiyan (Nausea). The present study was designed to investigate toxicity of JBS following 90 days repeated oral administration in rats. JBS was orally administered at the dose levels of 1000 and 2000 mg/kg bw/day. The results obtained showed that oral administration of JBS at doses 1000 and 2000 mg/kg bw did not show any significant adverse effects on survival, body weight gain, hematology, clinical biochemistry, gross necropsy and histopathology. Therefore, No-Observed-Adverse-Effect-Level (NOAEL) is found to be greater than 2000 mg/kg body weight.
