Comparative Profitability of Broiler Production in Delta State, Nigeria
The study focused on the comparative profitability of broiler farmers in Delta State using self-made feed and commercial feed. It specifically examined the socio-economic characteristics of the broiler producers and compared the profitability of producer using self-made feed and commercial feed. Multi stage and random sampling methods were used to select 40 out of the 133 registered broiler farmers in the structured questionnaire administered through personal interview. Description and parametric statistics of means, frequency distribution, percentage and enterprise budgeting were employed in data analysis. Finds of the study showed that majority of the respondents were males, with mean age of 42.85 years, married with average household size of 5 persons. The mean educational attainment was 13.6 years and mean farming experience was 12.2 years. Profitability analysis showed that broiler production was profitable using both types of feed given the positive values of gross margin, net farm income and mean net farm income.
