The need for systematic follow up of medicines for adverse drug reactions once they are introduced into general use has been widely recognised today. Even in developing countries like India, national pharmacovigilance programme has been started for monitoring adverse drug reactions. In its first year this program mainly aimed to foster the culture of ADR notification among health care professionals.
