Selected Traditional Practices Among Postnatal Mothers

An Exploratory study to assess traditional practices in post natal management among post natal mother's in PCMC area, to develop instructional booklet was conducted. As per Leiningers Cultural Care Theory conceptual framework was made which include factors affecting on postnatal management like mothers diet after delivery, newborn feeding, mothers personal hygiene, and newborn care. The research design used was exploratory descriptive research design .Purposive sampling was used for sampling method. Sample was selected by interview in postnatal ward. The sample of the study constitute of 60 postnatal mothers from Dr. D. Y. patil Hospital, Bhosari Hospital, and Jijamata Hospital, Pimpri Chinch wad Municipal Corporation, Pune. The structured interview schedule was prepared for assessing the traditional practices of the postnatal mothers regarding postnatal management. Major findings of the study were: Majority of postnatal mothers (38.33%) were from age group 21year to 23 year. Maximum (40%) postnatal mothers were from joint families. There were 38.33% postnatal mothers from nuclear family and only21.67% were from extended families. Majority of postnatal mothers (40%) wash the hair after 15th day of postpartum. There is association between demographic variable like age and type and family and score of traditional practices in postnatal management at 5% and 10% level of the significance.
