Effectiveness of Breastfeeding on Intensity of Pain Prior to Immunizing Intramuscular Injection among Infants
Subscribe/Renew Journal
Objective: The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of breast feeding on pain response in infants during immunizing intramuscular injection.
Methods: The researcher employed a quasi-experimental design with evaluative approach. A total of 120 infants receiving D.P.T vaccine were randomly distributed into control and experimental group. Post vaccination behavior of infants was scored in NIPS.
Results: There were statistically significance differences in facial expression, cry, breathing pattern, arms, legs and state of arousal between the experimental group and the control group.
Conclusion: It was concluded that the perception of pain intensity is less among infants when I.M. vaccine is administered during breast feeding.
