Descriptive Study to Assess the Knowledge of the Post Natal Mother on Breast Feeding Practice those are Admitted in Obstetric Ward of Selected Hospital, Bhubaneswar, Odisha

The healthy population is the wealth of the nation, children are the most vital human resource a country possesses -children hold the potential and set the limit of future development of any country, "Better the nutritional status of the children higher will be the nation rise.'' and that nutrition is human milk which is a ideal and uniquely superior food for infants for the first six months of life. For the same every mother should have the knowledge upon breast feeding practices. With this reason the present study is conducted to assess the knowledge of the post natal mother on breast feeding practice. The study was conducted in IMS and Sum Hospital, Bhubaneswar with a sample size of 50 post natal mothers by using structured questionnaire based on the knowledge on breast feeding practice. Non-probability purposive sampling method was used for selecting the sample. Highest percentage (78%) of post natal mothers having average knowledge, 8% having good knowledge and 4% of mothers having poor knowledge. The mean knowledge score on breast feeding practice was 9.32 with SD =2.4 and there is a significant association between the knowledge scores of post natal mothers on breast feeding practice with education and occupation, as the chi- square value are 13.01 and 14.01 respectively at 0.05 significant level(df=6).
