A Study to Assess the Effectiveness of Teaching Programme in Knowledge on Selected Infectious Disease among Mothers of under Five Children in Thiruvallur District

The world health report shows that the world also stands on the brink of a global crisis in infectious disease. No country is safe from them and no country can afford to ignore their threat any longer. Today the infectious disease are not only a healthy issue, they have become a social problem for the well being of individual and the world we live in. So a study was undertaken to assess the effectiveness of teaching programme in knowledge on selected infectious disease among mothers of under five children in Thiruvallur District." Sample size was 60 and simple random sampling technique was used in this study. In pre test, the overall knowledge aspect on infectious disease, the mean value was 54.58(11.58%). In post test, the overall knowledge on infectious disease, the mean value was 70.67 with a standard deviation of (8.85%). The calculated t value is (12.782). The paired t value showed that there was a statistically significant improvement on knowledge level after teaching programme on infectious disease among mothers of under five years children at the level of p>0.001. On the basis of the findings of the present study there was increased in the level of knowledge among the mothers after structured teaching programme. This study recommends the need to educate mothers of under five children who are living in rural area regarding infectious disease.
