Globalization in Nursing:A Concept Analysis

Background: The term globalization is often used in the nursing literature; however, the appropriate concept of this term still remains ambiguous. We need more clarification in our understanding of the globalization process and its relationship to nursing. We aimed to analyze the concept of globalization in nursing.

Methods: Using the Wilson method, we aimed to undertake a concept analysis of globalization, with the ultimate goal of bringing the concept closer to use in research and clinical practice. The literature for this concept was reviewed using Pub Med and Science Direct from 2001-2011.

Results: Globalization is a social force created and controlled by human beings, touching all parts of our lives. As a nurse, we must operate locally and globally and make a balance between the winners and losers.

Conclusions: It is important to use a clear language for globalization in discussion and documentation between nurses and among various disciplines. Through clarification of our language, we may help achieve praxis.
