Development of Extractive Spectrophotometric Determination of Nickel (II) with Isatin-3-Semicarbazone (HISC) as an Analytical Reagent
Subscribe/Renew Journal
A simple spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of Ni (II) by using Isatin-3-Semicarbazone (HISC) as an analytical reagent. HISC has been synthesized and characterized by elemental and spectral analysis. HISC extracts Ni (II) quantitatively (99.80%) into iso - amyl alcohol from an aqueous solution of pH range 5.5 - 7.2. Iso - amyl alcohol extract shows an intense peak at 500 nm (λ max). Beer's law is obeyed over the Ni (II) concentration range of 1.0 - 6.0 μg/ml. The sandell's sensitivity and molar absorptivity for Ni - HISC system is 7.32 ngcm-2 and 8014.07 L mole-1cm-1 respectively. The composition of extracted species is found to be 1: 2 (Ni: HISC) by Job's Continuous Variation and Mole Ratio Method. Interference by various ions has been studied. The proposed method has been successfully applied for determination of Ni (II) in alloy samples.
