The present work contend with the synthesis, characterization and antimicrobial activity of some novel Schiff's bases of 4-substituted thiazol-2-amine as five membered heterocyclic compounds. 4-((2-methyl-5-nitro-1H-imidazol-1-yl) methyl) thiazol-2-amine (3) was synthesized by refluxing 1-chloro-3-(2-methyl-5-nitro-1H-imidazol-1-yl) propan-2-one (2) with thiourea using water as solvent. Compound (3) on reaction with substituted benzaldehyde afforded Schiff's bases (4a-4k). Similarly 4-((2-methyl-4-nitro-1H-imidazol-1-yl) methyl) thiazol- 2-amine (7) was synthesized by refluxing 1-chloro-3-(2-methyl-4-nitro-1H-imidazol-1-yl) propan-2-one (6) with thiourea using water as solvent. Compound (7) on reaction with substituted benzaldehyde afforded Schiff's bases (8a-8k). The chemical structures of synthesized compounds were elucidated on the basis of IR and H-NMR and MASS spectral studies. The synthesized Schiff's bases (4a-4k) and (8a-8k) were screened for their antibacterial activity against Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas aurius using cefixime as standard drug and antifungal activity against Aspergillus niger, Candida albicans, Aspergillus flavus using Clotrimazole as standard drug by agar well diffusion assay method.
