Response of Transplanted Rice to N, P and K Levels:Effect on Growth, Grain Yield and Economics

A field experiment was conducted at Agricultural Research Station, Gangavathi, Karnataka, during Kharif 2000 and summer 2001 to study the effect of different N, P and K levels on growth and yield of irrigated rice. Application of 200:44:62 kg N, P and K ha-1 with an N:P:K ratio of 3.2:0.7:1for kharif rice and 250:44:62 kg ha-1 with an N:P:K ratio of 4:0.7:1 for summer rice appeared to be optimum for realizing higher grain yield and monetary returns. The higher grain yields were attributed to higher dry matter production as well as higher harvest index. Among the yield parameters, the number of panicles per unit area contributed most to the grain yield.
