This book was approved by the University of Pune for the doctorate degree in History. It is based on material available in both Indian and British libraries. The author won the Best Doctoral Thesis award in History for it. The Indian Council for Historical Research provided financial assistance for its publication. This being so, it is expected to be an outstanding work.
