The Sinhalese Caste System

In Ceylon out of a total population of 8.1 million persons (Census - 1953) nearly 70 per cent constitute the Sinhalese speaking people. Out of these about nine-tenths are Buddhists and many of them have observed and are still observing some form of a caste system similar to the social system found in India.
