Gasserian Ganglion Neurolysis under Propofol Anaesthesia: A Case Report

Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is a clinical syndrome characterized by brief paroxysms of unilateral lancinating facial pain triggered by cutaneous stimuli.

Gasserian ganglion neurolysis is one of the percutaneous treatments for trigeminal neuralgia.The technique includes injecting anhydrous glycerol in to the Meckel's cave under fluoroscopic guidance and asking the patient to sit immediately to prevent the neurolytic agent spreading to the posterior fossa and hence done with patient being awake.we report a case of gasserian ganglion neurolysis with glycerol where we had to administer general-anesthesia with short acting drug propofol in the middle of the procedure. Later we realised that it had many advantages like more patient comfort,co-operation and it combatted the emesis that could be caused by glycerol with its anti-emetic properties.
