Anaesthetic Management of Intra-operative Atrio-Ventricular Tachyarrhythmia in a Post-Partum Patient Posted for Laparotomy

Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) is the most common sustained arrhythmia presenting in pregnancywith incidence of 1.2 per 1000.¹ The increase in frequency of arrhythmias and in symptoms during pregnancy may be a result of the associated haemodynamic, hormonal, autonomic and emotional changes.² Paroxysmal atrioventricular nodal re-entrant tachycardia is an infrequently encountered supraventricular arrhythmia which increases the maternal and foetal morbidity and mortality, hence requires prompt treatment.
