Anaesthetic Management of Intra-operative Atrio-Ventricular Tachyarrhythmia in a Post-Partum Patient Posted for Laparotomy
Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) is the most common sustained arrhythmia presenting in pregnancywith incidence of 1.2 per 1000.1 The increase in frequency of arrhythmias and in symptoms during pregnancy may be a result of the associated haemodynamic, hormonal, autonomic and emotional changes.2 Paroxysmal atrioventricular nodal re-entrant tachycardia is an infrequently encountered supraventricular arrhythmia which increases the maternal and foetal morbidity and mortality, hence requires prompt treatment.
