Spinal Anesthesia for Abdominal Hysterectomy in a Patient with Kyphoscoliosis with Restrictive Lung Disease

Anesthetic management in spinal deformities may cause difficulties with both tracheal intubation and regional anesthesia. The abnormal spine makes intubation and ventilation difficult, coexisting hypoxemia and pulmonary infection may lead to difficult extubation and prolonged ventilation. And spinal anesthesia may also be troublesome because of difficult access to subarachnoid space, decreased CSF volume, rapid onset of sympathetic blockade causing hemodynamic compromise and difficulty in predicting the level the block.
