Where are we in terms of scientific advancement, 69 years from independence? This question was the basis for a recent workshop where at stake were questions relating to the tangible outcomes of investments in Science and Technology (S&T) beyond mere publication, as true of India as of other nations around the world, authoritarian regimes to democracies. In such a context, this workshop was aimed at understanding the impact of S&T on Indian society in the years after independence from a historical perspective, with a view to enabling relevant stakeholders to make appropriate recommendations for future policies.
