Professor Viswanatha Ramamurti was born on 18 September 1938 at Annamalainagar, Tamil Nadu. He was a celebrated teacher, an excellent researcher and an industrial consultant par excellence. He pioneered industrial consultancy in the Department of Applied Mechanics at Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT/M), and helped the Department earn a name nationally for seismic vibration testing of industrial components.
