Increase in surface air temperature in Antarctica has been a subject of major concern in recent years, as it may destroy the existing ecosystem and exert varied adverse effects on mankind and vegetation. Atmospheric temperature depends on the amount of solar energy the earth receives and how much of this energy it retains through greenhouse gases (GHGs)1,2. As ground-based weather stations in Antarctica are few and far between, especially in the high-altitude interiors, and automated weather stations are also sparse, it is difficult to evaluate the changing climate across the entire continent.

Abstract

Increase in surface air temperature in Antarctica has been a subject of major concern in recent years, as it may destroy the existing ecosystem and exert varied adverse effects on mankind and vegetation. Atmospheric temperature depends on the amount of solar energy the earth receives and how much of this energy it retains through greenhouse gases (GHGs)1,2. As ground-based weather stations in Antarctica are few and far between, especially in the high-altitude interiors, and automated weather stations are also sparse, it is difficult to evaluate the changing climate across the entire continent.
